Ok, here’s the clothespin trip wire from my old copy of the Dangerous Book for Boys that I spent too much of my youth memorizing: Take a clothes pin and put some aluminum foil or aluminum tape on the jaws, attach one wire to each jaw and connect those to a battery and whatever you want to power (lightbulb or electric match) anchor the clothespin and use a cork with an eye bolt screwed in as your firing system. You just need an insulator between the jaws, you could just cover an eye bolt in gum if you have the time to wait for it to get hard so it doesn’t stick.
@d34dR0d3n73 жыл бұрын
That and this episode is a reason that hangers, clothes-pins, aluminum foil and a roll or five of electrical tape are in my bugout kit. You have "basic junk" and a bit of knowledge, you can do almost anything. As long as you know the what/why/how. Electric tape is also really damn strong if twist/wrap it the right way (because it's so narrow), almost as good or better than duct, depending on application.

Some options: 1) use cardboard matchbooks. If you pull them out and fold the cover inside out and lay the heads on the striking surface, it will ignite (have it nice and tight or use clothespin method) 2) zip tie the matches very tight and have the striking surface wedged in between them being pulled out. The match heads might break if its too much pressure, but i dont think its big enough to have that much pressure in the first place

My grandfather made an electronic version of this to scare dogs from coming down his driveway. He used the clothpin with wire contacts separated by a stick (attached to a tripwire). When the clothes pin closed and made contact, it completed a circuit to a car battery which terminated in a tiny piece of copper wire that went through the center of a firecracker (he used a needle to poke a small hole and thread through the firecracker). It worked really well. You got a near instant bang when the tripwire was pulled because the copper wire would instantly get red hot in the middle of the firecracker.

You can also take the black cat throwing snappers and fix them to a mouse trap rigged with your trip wire. But you have to glue a hard metal surface to the spot where the bait goes (or in this case your snapper). I used a pop bottle cap and glued it to the wood. Then you have to bend a slight point in the middle of the metal flipping piece. Put your snapper on the pop cap then tie your trip wire to the latch that sets your trap. Tie it to a tree and now you have a reliable trip wire trap that's made of garbage. Your welcome lol. Also I love you guys, I've been following since Scam School took off. Love what you guys do, keep up the amazing work.

So i had two ideas to improve on the design, purely hypothetical, but i know of other kinds of firecrackers that dont need any sort of heat to go off. There are pull string firecrackers where all you would have to do is tie one string off and the other to your trip wire. The other idea i had, you can use the impact firecrackers. Just tie the trip wire to the firecracker and put a rock or something hard the path it would travel when the trip wire was sprung.

Trim one ear of the cloths pin and drill the hole for the nail for a permanent holder. Could also build it with the armed setup in a vertical peice of PVC with a cap on one end and open on the lower end so that it stays protected from the weather. Run the string down through a heavy duty staple nailed into the tree to prevent it from being seen so easy or a pulley.

Problems 1.) A trip alarm set off while you're sleeping may wake you up, but you don't necessarily know WHICH alarm went off. Also, sound in wooded areas bounces off trees making it very difficult to accurately pinpoint origination even when fully alert and actively listening for an alarm. 2.) Small firecrackers make small noises. Think back to the drop off of amplitude experienced during the jury-rigged car horn episode, where the obnoxiously loud horn could barely be heard at distance. Now imagine if you only had a split second to hear it... Improvements/Solutions 1.A) Utilizing the smoke paper (nitrated cellulose) you could send up a plumbe of smoke along with the firecracker alert for visual identification where obstruction height is minimal. 1.B) Daisy chaining specific numbers of firecrackers together could identify specific zones by the number of reports. Simply tape the tip of one fuse to the base of the next fuse to create a delay between detonations. 2.) All sounds CAN be amplified. Punch two small holes under the lip of an empty soup can and zip tie the lead firecracker(with attached match) inside the can. Two more holes can be punched in the base of the can (one on the bottom and one on the side) so you can loop a piece of string/zip tie/key ring, to attach the can to a tree or ground stake. The can could be easily camouflaged using a thin layer of mud with leaves and bark pressed into it. The soup can could also create a self contained method of transport. Daisy chained firecrackers taped to the interior, zip tie and or ground stake/nail placed inside along with clothes pin striker (wrap line around clothes pin for storage), and smoke paper used as packing material to keep everything from rattling around. Stretch a lubricant free condom over the can and tie in a knot and PRESTO! SELF CONTAINED, WATERPROOF, ALARM WITH REDUNDANT DIRECTIONAL INDICATION!

Upgrade the idea to light a signal fire! You need to call the rogues near by when you’re being attacked! Here’s how: Take the striking surface from a few match boxes and line the inside of a pill bottle with it. Fill the bottle (CAREFULLY!) with matches until the matches are tight against the side (Maybe place the last few matches in upside down to reduce an accidental ignition). Once the matches plug the inside of the pill bottle, hot glue the ends of the matches together. Be careful not to hot glue the matches to the bottle though! You can also throw in a key ring while the glue is drying, to work as an anchor point for the match plug. Glue a match through the key ring to help the ring stay in place while the plug is being pulled. Once the plug and the striker bottle are put together, attach the plug to a stationary location and attach the bottle to the tripwire. If you have a fire pit or a signal fire built right, a stationary flame from that many matches should make it go up. Maybe Throw pine sap in to the logs to help it ignite quicker. Good luck!! I loved the episode. Thank you so much for everything!

I apologize for the wall of text. But since I had been making things like this for most of my childhood, I thought i could give a few pointers. Couple suggestions, Instead of using those fireworks use the ones that are a group of those all tied together on one fuse. If you dismantle it, each individual one has a very fast short fuse. This would allow it to go off nearly instantly. Second, instead of wrapping the matches in the striking surface, fold the striking surface in half with the striking surface on the outside. Place 2 matches on either side like a match Oreo. Then rubberband the whole thing onto the firework with the match heads near the fuse and being squeezed against the striking surface by the rubberband. You may want to strengthen the matches attachment to the firework with duct tape or something. And finally, you can tie this to your tripwire by poking a hole in the striking surface and running the line through the hole. You can strengthen this by putting a small stick or another match inside the folded striking surface and tie the trip wire around it. This would make it so the line can't cut through the stricker.

So, if they are worried about Sassfras, they can do substitutes. Just won't be the same as true rootbeer (sassafras is the main root in rootbeer)

Just an idea, but you guys could make a laser trip wire like you see in all the heist movies. It's actually not crazy hard to do or even expensive... You could salvage cheap solar panels from Dollar Tree garden lights, grab an old low voltage automotive relay (this can be tricky but low voltage relays are cheap online), a $1 laser pointer, a 9v battery, and a loud passive piezo buzzer (salvaged from electronics or bought in a pack of like 15 for $8 on amazon). The laser light pointing at the solar panel will induce a charge which will keep the relay flipped. Something walks in front of the beam, the relay trips the other way closing the circuit to where the 9v sounds the buzzer. Best part? No fuse. You'll trip the relay at nearly the speed of light (thanks to the power of lasers).

I'm wondering if you could fashion a kit out of it, something that can be carried. It seems to work well enough, just make the 2 separate parts, the clothes pin with the striking surface and the fuse that can fit into a pill bottle or those old film bottles, so it can fit in your pocket safely.

My only concern is that just stepping on or slightly pulling on a trip wire may not be enough force to actually separate and ignite it. It seems like it really needs a good tug if you know what I mean lmao. As for a solution to this maybe the trip wire could be spring loaded somehow? Like when you used the branches as springs for those animal traps. Or building off of what John Smith suggested before me, tie the trip wire to a mouse trap to 'pull the pin' per say.

When I read "Improvising a Fireworks Alarm" In my head I thought like an alarm you wake up to and while what you guys did makes more sense I'm slightly disappointed I was wrong.

The way we make tripwires for airsoft is a rat trap with a small steel plate where it closes, then a .22 is placed in a small hole in said plate, which is struck with the bar. It's gone off every time we've used it

Very first thing I thought of when you said trip wire was, wooden clothes peg. It's an improvised bomb makers best friend. Want an electrical trip wire, add two thumbtacks and some wire, use a strip of cardboard connected to the trip wire as the insulator breaking the circuit. Enjoy. (I may or may not have been professionally trained in improvised explosives and booby traps by a 1st world military)

love how you guys are playing with matches in a "house" literally made of kindling... thats the modern rogue way!

I swear your videos don't end up in my recommendations unless I'm already watching one. I'm Four months late to this video and MAD about it

If you used a fuse as the rope and tied multiple firecrackers to it it could help pinpoint where exactly they were coming from, you would just want to set shorter wires probably, however this could work with a broken firecracker pack pretty easy Placing a loose metal cone/looped sheet around the explosive would potentially help both contain debris and make the sound far more recognizable, doing a sort of fog horn effect A quick painting of greens and browns of the clip would make it much less noticeable, or just drape some moss/bark/leaves over the clip/explosive to make it disappear Having a double line would allow for a backup line to make it more likely to pull right and less likely to snap If you wrapped it in a layer of your smoke paper it would send up a smoke signal that you could spot above the trees, and if you made it smoke that was hard on the eyes it would double as a badguy distractant/delay/deterrent Instead of or in addition to the firecracker possibly add one of those near blinding strobe mini fireworks? The flashing 1” ones that always leave retina spots? Maybe attached to the fixed spot tho to avoid fire issues Use a non-exploding, whistle making mini bottle rocket style thing so it would fly at/past the intruder and make a longer, louder, and more startling noise Add a trail of other bang makers on the trip path so when the one falls the whole line goes snap crackle and bang Have the tripwire pull a line that goes up a tree and across a branch so that when it gets free it swings down and pops near their head/face, maybe releasing some powder or something to further distract, identify, or startle them

you can do this with bear bangers instead if firecrackers,. works good for keeping wildlife away from your camp. both obviously carry a fire hazard so have some sort of extinguisher on hand.

The easiest way is to use the tape and tape the striker around the match. No ziptie needed. Just remember to tape it tightly, or it won't ignite the match.

I still can’t believe that Brian was trying to pull the matches towards him, it wouldn’t have lit the fire cracker

improvement: Hello MR . drill a small hole in the (Non pinchy) side of the clothespin. Setup = tie (or nail) firecracker/match set to "tree". Tie fishing line to small hole in the clothespin. Pinch trip line with clothespin to the matches. Tie off other end of the fishing line to create trip wire. This keeps the firecracker in one spot so you do not re-rest the injury counter or burn down the forest. (then follow Prs722's instructions of yelling "Go away bad guy".}

They have some pretty neat noise makers that use shotgun shells and have a nice and easy pin to tie to some string
