The van camper meets it's final resting spot - high up in the trees! We convert a high mileage van into the perfect tree top truck redneck treehouse. This thing has everything! Part 2: • I Built a Luxurious TR...
We convert a high mileage Dodge Caravan into a wood stove heated stealth minivan camp and boondock. This stock dodge caravan is the perfect car to convert into a stealth camper because it looks completely ordinary from the outside and will not raise any suspicion at all.
We tear out all the original seats except for the drivers seat, install some unique and completely free custom wood floors, add a table, bed, shelves, and Ecoflow battery to power all the lights and appliances to keep us comfortable while camping out wherever the road takes us.
We tear out the engine, and all the excess weight, and lift the van way up high into the trees to enjoy and overnight in the woods.
I start the adventure with bringing everyone up to speed on the van build and show you how I put the entire stealth van together. I'll show you how to build a bed, install the fireplace, and rig up the solar panels. I then take the van on a test drive around the city and pick up overnight supplies from Walmart, and hit the fast food joints for some coffee and snacks. I then find a nice quiet spot down by the river to camp out overnight to get the full van life experience!

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

A small mechanics rolling chair , take off the wheels and bolt down where the drivers seat is that would swivel, and add storage where the dash and steering wheel is,and a foldout table so you can open the drivers door, sit on the stool fold the table out to cook on and bang, there you go.

OMFG i have wanted to do this for 25 years, i can even show a pic of an old VW on a post i first saw in 1994. By 2010 my dream version was a wagon in a tree / forest with bed in back, pulley bucket food delivery and TV in front windscreen like a little theater in a tree. Then you could watch starwars and pretend you're in a spaceship with popcorn. Now i have finished pre-commenting i will watch 😀

You could remove the dash and make the empty engine compartment into storage accessible to the inside. Or maybe make it into a sort of tuck away sleeping space leaving the rest of the van open for other things. If you put a deck on one side and around the front then you could maybe rig up the engine compartment to be something like the kitchen area on the back of a teardrop camper. Possibly rig it up so when you open the hood it all lifts up to be an accessible kitchen area.
@joecloud8884

I love this, and - since you asked - I have a million ideas/suggestions. I would open up your hood and spray down your entire fire wall with some hard foaming insulation. Having lived in a non-motored van before, this was always a way that creepy crawlies (and mosquitoes) got in the cab - through the zillion of holes for wiring, heating, guages, etc. I would also keep a bag of silica gel under one of the seats when you're not there. This will abosrb the moisture that otherwise would grow mold on your upholstery, etc. You can just dry it out when you get there by putting it in a bucket on the woodstove. You could also put a solar panel on your roof, or, if not, a deck on top for lounging. I would also definitely put a deck around it on at least two sides. Then you could sit out. And a retractable rope ladder too. - to keep you safe from you, know, pirates or some such.

I remember this Caravan...had completely forgotten about it until this vid. This build is as good a build for it as anything compared to just scrapping it. EDIT: I dunno about taking out the drivers seat...I mean you won't be driving anywhere, but most drivers seats are fairly comfortable and the windshield has a nice view. Could be a nice seat to relax in and read a book, or enjoy a rainstorm or similar such things. Just a thought

Since I am a mechanic for a living, this was the most fun I have had watching you work. I've never seen anyone take the engine out the top of one of those. I guess if you want to break everything under the hood, and spend more than the normal 3 hours, you could do it your way. Don't think I have ever laughed out loud this much on one of your videos. Maybe you could find a full size Econoline van for your next attempt. Hint: The engine comes out the front, but you have to take the bumper off first. Awesome tree house.

My thoughts for a nice hunting cabin: A minivan where all of the windows roll down (so all windows are potential shooting points) A swivel base passengers chair (so it can be a comfortable seat usable from the rear Leave the fuel tank on and you can use it to fuel a chinese diesel heater (or gas version) for a VERY long time for heat with no effort If you had power open doors you could probably make a ladder drop out of it when you open the door I've wanted to do this for a while, though I dont know if I will or not (only 10 acres here). But fun project and it gets the wheels turnin', so to speak

man I love the fact that after I heard about literally being so tired, just wanting to give up, turned into a cozy stealth camper that has enough to keep someone safe, but not having to deal with cold or just you know, the exterior, so just placing it on a high place and just, let it become one back to ground, and I have a little idea since you have it placed on top, why not build something under it, with wood, and act too like a support, but down there have a little of canned goods and whatnot, but I really like that you let it had a calm end to a machine that probably went through so much

I like to say i'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but seeing you struggle and fight the engine to come out while making it harder for yourselves with a grinder, makes me think im closer to a real mechanic than i thought XD

I would definitely continue to add to it. I would put a deck around it. It would make it easier to come and go, increase the stability of the structure as a whole. Provide easy access to the ex-engine compartment (storage), a place to sit and cut fire wood. I would put a canopy over it to keep rain at bay and help keep it cooler during the summer time, you can put solar panels on it for energy demands. Can always put a small generator on the patio, put a collapsible ladder or maybe retractable one you can even put a screen around it for the mosquitoes and flies and even birds. I just hope that the trees that it is perched on don’t grow any. I also hope that you own the land that you built it on, and I hope that the government leaves you alone, sometimes laws can really be a pain. But I think it’s 👍

Don showed a lot of common sense when he stood away from the swaying/rocking car while Kevin was removing the motor. Don has successfully lived through another of Kevin and his adventures.

You should name it Fort Caravan. Also, you could make your engine compartment into a hot tub with the hood suspended above it as a roof or a place to put your wood... on the trees across from your sliding doors, you could mount a massive tv with a frame and roof system. This way, you can tailgate and watch American Football! More ideas to come.

Replace the incandescent lights with LED bulbs. Headlights can illuminate your forest if you need that illumination. You are a strange man even for a Canadian. Trusting that you, Don and your families are safe from the fires and the smoke. Wishing you and them a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace Kevin

I think now you need to build a series of connected treehouses/treecabins, all connected by elevated walkways, Ewok-village style. That would be awesome.

I would remove the steering wheel and take the driver seat loose and face it to the back for a comfy seat, hopefully it will still recline. Also, keep an emergency rope or roll up ladder, in case somehow the winds or a bear knock away the ladder. Speaking of bears, keep an air horn to run off any unwanted guests, and don't open the door for bears. Rewire the headlights and emergency flashers for outside lighting and safety. A walkaround patio or roof pallet patio would be a definite benefit. Get some blackout curtains. Paint the outside camoflage style so you can use it to hunt deer and hide better. So many options! Cool idea dude!

I love this Idea! You could build a small deck around the vehicle, so that you won't fall out as soon as you step outside. And maybe a corrugated iron roof over the car, so that it rains even less on the car itself, this should increase it's lifetime by a lot! You could add additional Vehicles like transporter vans or post trucks as housing, too! They don't have to all be the same height, they could overlap and have bridges between them. And they don't have to be ordered neatly in 90 degrees, because they stand where trees are. So it looks like a forrest of vehicle housing.
