Oh! It would've been, could've been
Worse than it had even gone
Well, the car was on blocks
But I was already where I want

I find the lead singer's ability to constantly change his tone in unexpected ways throughout the song super interesting. If you try to sing along yourself with the lyrics right in front of you it's quite difficult. Also, I love how Modest Mouse changes the "main chorus" which makes the entire song lyrically unique and unexpected on first listens.

@hectichive889
@hectichive889 8 ай бұрын
@redyossarian5820, Maybe that’s your personal preference to have less screaming in a song, and if this song is too much scream, then wow… but either way, screaming doesn’t imply anything about a singer being a weak vocalist, in fact I’d argue the opposite. Being able to control your voice and repeatedly recreate powerful screams for the duration of a song requires good control of your vocal chords to not absolutely shred them and destroy your voice from exhaustion.

Lyrics Well, it would've been, could've been Worse than you would ever know Oh, the dashboard melted, but we still have the radio Oh, it should've been, could've been Worse than you would ever know Well, you told me about nowhere Well, it sounds like someplace I'd like to go Oh, it could've been, should've been Worse than you would ever know Well, the windshield was broken, but I love the fresh air y'know (The dashboard melted, but we still have the radio) Oh, it would've been, could've been Worse than you would ever know, oh (The dashboard melted, but we still have the radio) Oh, we talked about nothing which was more than I wanted you to know-oh-oh-oh-oh Now here we go Oh, It would've been, could've been Worse than it had even gone Well, the car was on blocks, but I was already where I want (It was impossible, we ran it good, we ran it good) Why should we ever even, ever really even get to know (It was impossible, we ran it good, we ran it good) Oh, if the world don't like us It'll shake us just like we were a co-oh-oh-oh-old Now here we go Well we scheme, and we scheme, but we always blow it We've yet to crash, but we still might as well enjoy it Standing at a light switch to each east and west horizon Every dawn you're surprising And the evening was consoling saying "See it wasn't quite as, bad as" Well, it would've been, could've been Worse than you would ever know I was patiently erasing and recording the wrong episodes After you had proved my point wrong It wasn't like I'd let it go, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh I just wanted to catch the last laugh of this show Yeah, it would've been, could've been Worse than you would ever know. Oh, the dashboard melted, but we still have the radio. (The dashboard melted, but we ran it good, we ran it good) Hard-wired to conceive so much we'd have to stow it Even needs have needs, tiny giants made of tinier giants Don't wear eyelids so I don't miss the last laugh of this show (The dashboard melted, but we still have the radio) Oh, we could've been, should've been Worse than you would ever know. (The dashboard melted but we still have the radio) Well, you told me about nowhere Well, it sounds like someplace I'd like to go-oh-oh-oh-oh Now here we go Well we scheme, and we scheme, but we always blow it We've yet to crash, but we still might as well enjoy it Standing at a light switch to each east and west horizon Every dawn you're surprising And the evening was consoling saying "See it wasn't quite as, bad as" Oh, it would've been, could've been Worse than you would ever know

What can I say Modern music has lost its passion, Nowadays its either political beliefs being shoved in your face in a not so suttle way or female rappers rapping about their private parts Modest Mouse has a kind of passion today's music cannot seem to recapture, listening to 'we were dead' start to finish is like going on a magical adventure on a sailboat All I can say is where did that all go? Modest mouse is timeless
@xyenthereptilian7451
@xyenthereptilian7451 Жыл бұрын
@@mattyfox_ stfu music back then was political (Johnny Cash, woody guthrie, literally the entire punk, & goth genre, rap to ragae and everywhere in between) hell even modest mouse is political it literally has songs about how we allow the world to burn for profit and mass corporations are corrupt with governments, how this system is inherently abusive and we bask on the reliability to find some next place or hope from someone else just so we can repeat the cycle. (Lampshades on fire, time walks in a box, we know, literally tons of their songs) and some female rappers might rap about their vaginas, just like male rappers talk about their dicks & fucking women, but there's also female rappers that talk about the beauty of life, that talk about their struggle, their passion, their love, just like there's that for male rappers. Today's music isn't dead or unable to recapture, you just haven't come out of your shell enough to find something you like. Learn not to judge books by its cover or to generalize an entire section of time.

I just started playing 'Dashboard,' which I'd been playing a few weeks before and forgotten about. And he instantly started improvising the lyrics, which knocked me out. I've tried sharing Modest Mouse with others and they say they don't like it because of the singer's voice but it just now dawned on me; the reason I like Modest Mouse so much is because his voice is being used as both a lyrical conveyor as well as an instrument rather than just the first. He chose a sound to fit the music and chose well. At least that's the very opinionated philosophy I've developed on the subject.

This band reminds me of this road trip I had in 1999 or the year 2000 to Texas with my parents, 4 brothers, and 3 of my sisters, stopping at KOA camps, and exploring as many States as we could, all of us pulled into a 1996 white mini van because we lost our home, but we had $2,000 just to spend until we found somewhere new in Southern New Jersey. It was the greatest time in my life. Besides the 100's of times we had to pull over while driving up mountains because the van had too many people in it, and we kept on overheating. But if I could go back in time, I'd want to go on this trip with my family, meetings all kinds of people, seeing American Indians for the first time, and traveling down this one street that seemed to go on forever with no speed limit, with amazing green hills, that to this day the beauty I never forgot.

This is still the greatest album in the history of music, IMO. Listening with a decent pair of headphones, giving your 100% attention to the music, instrumentals, and this guys PHENOMENAL ability to sing, no outside noise.... theres no better music-listening experience than this album right here. It makes me want to cry sometimes, from the pure joy it brings. These guys were so underrated its actually disgusting. @leagueidiot3052

It's pretty simple. The song is about perspective. The event that he lived through the video did not actually happen but instead are the one the people at the people imagine because of the way he is talking about it. In this video, Isaac actually lost his arm in a pretty boring way, but decides to make up a story to cover the real story which he might be "ashamed of". The more is goes on, the weirder it becomes for the people around the table until it becomes completly non-sense. At that point, they start to insult him and mock him but the barman (which has lost a limb to casual event too) comes around and agree with the story of Isaac because his perspective is the same as Isaac. Suddendly, everyone at the table doubt but in reality, Isaac treasure map is nothing but lies. But he chooses to believe it because it's not boring and it gives him a goal.

Really is an amazing band. It's remarkable how relevant they manage to stay while still keeping out of the mainstream. They reinvented their sound on Good News and yet still somehow manage to stick to their signature sound (I suspect Isaac Brock's singing has a large part to do with this). Even their very poorly produced first album (I forget if Sad Sappy Sucker or Fruit that Ate Itself came first but they're both good and poorly produced) has great music on it.
