A few years back i was stuck in my home town in GA, ended up losing where I was staying, the girl I was seeing and my job in the span of two days. Ended up getting a pack on craigslist and went off to hitchhike to CO. Had a friend drop me off on the side of the road out in the boonies and I started my long walk. After the first bend this song came on my head phones and I remember just crying my eyes out, feeling the weight of those past years slide off of me and all the potential of a new adventure in front of me. @@johnwhite1321 that's because the "Hot 100" and "Top 50" are based on mostly hip hop and pop. Not punk rock, pop punk, rock, or metal. The comments on this video are pretty ironic, people remembering their past, how they originally found this song. About better times, but this song is actually about moving on after bad things and how we all just move on after all bad things. "Floating on." We all have our troubles, but we will all float on okay, don't you worry. Even if things end up a bit heavy, we will all float on. At least that's how I interpret it.
@SadieMage5 жыл бұрын
Music Chanimal I take it sarcastically now. I used to interpret it as not having a worry. Now I interpret it as a warning to those pursuing pleasure and escapism. The animal farm and Orwellian theme of the video give me this vibe. The fact that the animals are being led to slaughter while happily matching has this forbidding undertone. I’m not in any way negating your interpretation. I actually came down here to bounce this theory off someone else and you seemed like an open mind to do that with. Granted, I could easily be biased because of my past and my own mess-ups in life. I just wanted to share that idea though. Thanks for reading. :)
@LBFMUSICA5 жыл бұрын
@@SadieMage That sounds like a pretty good interpretation as well! I didn't expect any actually well-thought out comments to respond to anything I said, let alone a popular song. I haven't been around very much but I understand where you come from, the fact the song is about moving on while the animals slaughtered have nowhere to move onto makes sense in my mind as well. I didn't think about it that way until you brought it up, thanks! It's rare getting a reply that isn't just a blind agreement or disagreement, so thanks!

I love how this song isn't just some happy song, and the video even shows that off with the unnerving energy. This song isn't a reassurance that things will get better; it's a desperate plea for things to get better, almost to the point of delusion, and I love it. It's not about knowing things will get better; it's about hoping things get better, and that regardless of what happens everyone will make it to the end. It's almost so morbid that it's comforting, and it's why I absolutely adore this song.

one of the main delusions in life is that it will never end, all the popular western religions are built around shoring up the delusion that you're somehow going to not stop existing when you die. i think the ego always wants to drift into this fantasy, but you can break through into beautiful moments of pure joy meditating on the fact that in time we will all lose everything we love, get sick, and die. there is no point being upset when these moments are all we ever have
@richardmccabe23923 жыл бұрын
It can also mean that bad stuff will happen and things won't necessarily get better but we'll still be okay despite it a.k.a. it's not the end of the world
@Prisoner3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily a delusion. When you are depressed you always assume that things will never ever get better, even though you know for a fact that tragedies don’t last for ever and one manages to either accept or just forget and keep moving on, so it’s a nice reminder to have modest mouse telling us life does get better. I would say it’s a fact that people usually assume tragedies will last longer than what they actually end up lasting. So it’s good to remind yourself that after some time you’ll float on alright, even though we know we might fall again It is also beneficial to delude yourself and pretend that life always will get better after a tragedies since it gives you strength to fight and move on.

Remember driving around for hours and hours in the indiana countryside with my first love to this song. I remember how in love we were and how beautiful that was. Being 16 and having no where to be and nothing to be worried about. The endless sea of grass. I'd just have my hand on her thigh while we drove forever. Those are some of the moments I cherish most in this life. We dated for 2 years and she found someone else. Spent a lot of time hating her for that. I'm 21 now and I'm just starting to feel a little better about it. I couldn't listen to this song for so long, and now I'm going through some serious issues with my current partner. This song really reminds me of the impermanence of life. Those fleeting, beautiful moments that sometimes get overshadowed by the inevitable periods of pain and suffering. It's taken me a long time to come to realize my life is not just one long, cruel joke. Those moments have value. Even if they don't always last. I miss being 16 in that endless sea of grass. It'll be okay though, anyway.
