After a week of repairing wires and tuning the carb we got our 89 SR5 out to test drive last night. This channel has been a huge inspiration for me. We saved one more AE92 from the junkyard.

for the 4af, assumed that engine is properly maintained, you can swap to a 2 barrel carb (mikuni, webber, del orto, or use a double carb from zc honda) and install an electric fuel pump (can use the 4afe fuel pump if you want), that way you can match the fuel supply like the fuel injection version (4afe). next step will be playing with your exhaust system since the stock were stupidly restrictive (34mm exhaust port going to 32mm stock exhaust manifold and 35mm stock mid pipe to muffler!). if you want to go a bit further, try playing with the cyl head. milling the head 0.5 - 1mm to increase the compression can be a start (4age have a 10:1 compression, even more on the silver/black top). reshaping the in/outlet port wouldnt necessary unless you plan for routine weekend racing.. do all that you can expect additional 10-15 hp. since the engine is made for daily commuters that bring you from house-kids school-groceries-house again, not much to expect from a 4af. but hey, its better to drive your slow car fast than drive a fast car slow.. the same can be applied also with the 4afe. friend of mine got 122hp (crank) on his 4afe with just increasing compression, playing the ignition timing, changin the exhaust system and the afr setup. it goes to 132hp (crank) after installing the unichip.

I have had a few 4afe powered Corollas Best mods for the money that i have performed: 7afe swap. I swapped in a 7afe from a 96 into a 90 Corolla, just use the distributor from the 90 Corolla and it works perfectly with the stock ecu and harness same motor mounts and everything. The 7afe feels really good. Nitrous WET kit. Retard the ignition timing (i just turned the distributor back a Little bit) runs 125 hp shot with no issues, it honestly feels like i can push to 150 shot if i wanted to. (Completely stock 7afe engine)

@@Tuned4Speed any ae92 specific advice for addressing horrible fuel economy? Gonna start at the fuel pressure regulator when I get the chance but was just wondering if this was something you’ve ever encountered before 🙏🏽

@@diegocabral1610 I’d say replace the fuel filter, replace the spark plugs, make sure the corolla is idling good, there’s a fast idle mixture screw on the carb to help adjust it

My 4afe has an acceleration lag and rough idle that I have never been able to resolve. Everything stock. As of now, I’m just trying to get mine to run as efficiently as it can as is. 112000 original miles. But the fuel economy is phenomenal, and it’s a very dependable daily driver.

Change pistons audi 1.8T pistons fit you will have to machine skim the top piston, shave engine head ,port , piggy back or standalone, header 4-2-1 , 4 nozzle injectors, fpr adjustable, custom make intake manifold , b series or 3sge Trottlebody , for gearbox c60 from runx , ecu crystal mod on 4afe revs maximum safely to 7500rpm, rod bolts ok but if need extra insurance 4age rods bolts from Arp works , i from Caribbean i have been building these engines for while now bo 4:30 th na and turbo.

4AFE: Header - full exhaust - P&P - C56 transmission - Intake (subjective really) - TODA Camshafts (yes they did have cams and its very rare and you would need to get shim over bucket replacement of the 1nzfe) - Tune via (Dicktator, Link or Adaptronics) you'll be getting 95 to 100 kw to the wheels (which is around 125 to 130WHP). This seemed alot of work comparing to 4age swap, but if you want to keep your 4afe this is the only way to get more power if you want to keep it N/A or turbocharge it and be on your way lol.

Oh yea, get them morosso Hi tension leads/wires, one guy from South Africa, did a morosso Lead test and it made +4KW more by just changing the lead/wire

Note* this only for if you use 2nd -3rd gen head ,fuel injected ,1 more thing using a 7afe headgasket and shaved head with audi pistons you get very high compression for na setup

@@angeloyescas7995 I’d start with doing a refresh on everything, especially the gear oil in your transmission! Do all the well needed maintenance on the car and it’ll definitely fell amazing, next you can throw some headers off of a 7afe (you’ll need to slightly modify it a bit to fit, and a nice flowing exhaust
