As a 40 year old who has lived in Mexico my whole life....yeah THAT sound brings back memories, and my gen is probably one of the last ones that can pretty much guaranteed to have driven one/in one at some point, either yours or a friend for whatever reason, and that model you're driving fixes the 2 main things I that always stressed me out about driving these, the character building brakes and the "yeah that's probably in gear" transmission, the vagueness of both elements always unnerved me. I feel like I did something as a car loving dad in that my 2 kids, who have never ridden in an air cooled VW both would LOVE to drive a classic VW bug, and they know full well I'd teach them to drive cars with "that lever you keep fiddling with".

What a gorgeous example. My mom drove a bug back the 1960s - it had a factory-issued folding canvas sunroof. As little kids my brother and I would take turns laying in the small deck behind the back seat, staring up through the back window. Though I have never owned one, there is a purity to the Beetle that I will always admire.

Hi, Mr. Topher; I actually learned how to drive, in an original VW Beatle, when I was 23, years old; before moving to Paris, France. All the very best, Shaun🦉 of NYC🗽

I have owned aircooled VW’s for 40 years. The plight of changing seats has never been figured out. There is a reason people generally stay stock. Repad and recover. They feel great when you do. Also, this car has survived 60 years mostly unmolested. Why do you want to be the first? There is no need anymore to strip its uniqueness. Let it be what it does best. Simple and slow.

In 1986 I had an opportunity to buy a '64 fully restored Bug for 2,500 Could kick myself for passing it up. There's nothing like driving an old VW. The journey is more fun than the destination.

I think they called this paint color: "Savanna Beige". Such a beautifully restored, cool, fun car, it brings back memories of my sisters 1970 Formula Vee bug that I used to take (and passed) my drivers test with.

Beetles are awesome. I have driven a lot of cool stuff over the years and a '61 Beetle rented from Turo was one of my favorites. They are so easy to drive.

Man, that sound. Transports me to when I was 16, driving my yellow 1972 standard Beetle, with one rear fender a different shade than the rest of the car because I was too broke to have it painted by a pro.

My first car was a1966 Bug I had a 6 volt Abersparka gas heater installed… back then I built an small inverter to produce12 v for my 8 track car stereo … the cold winter in Canada made me have the gas heater put. My next car was a1975 Corvette. Good video this is.. the owner is a bit off 🇨🇦❤️

I like the unplanned accidental beetle coverage between this and RCR
@stevenf9272 ай бұрын
I bought a 1970 beetle in 1979, and drove it 30K miles before it was killed in an accident. I replaced it with a 1974 super beetle and drove that 120K miles. One thing about driving it in the winter is that since the front is light you could brake or you could turn, but you could not brake hard and turn if the roads were snow covered. Also, the brakes really sucked and didn't have automatically adjusting brakes like most cars had at the time - you had to use a screwdriver and manually adjust the brakes at each wheel. One time visiting my sister in Ann Arbor I had to do that because the braking performance had gotten so bad on the trip there. The car in the video is a 1966, which was the last year for that style of bumpers which is probably why that year is more collectable.

I guess is that he has never owned a Volkswagen beetle before so my suggestion would be to get some hot VWs and -VW trends magazines and read through them that's how I knew what parts that will fit what cars and what years now I could tear down a car and rebuild it from the ground up like my 67 bug that I'm just about finished with and go with EMPI seats they do recline but are pricy about $1,000 bucks ..

Someone needs to put some sense into that man for slamming doors, hood, frunk... smh. You don't do that to Beetles, you'll bend things and create rattles for no reason. If panels are lined up (which they seem to be in this car since it was just restored), it should take minimal effort to close doors, hood, and frunk. Take care of your car, please...
