Just got done with Millville and the Deeg's made his Yamaha look incredible ( so did J Coop on the 450 ) I remember I got one of the 1st 01 250f's that made it into Minnesota 25 years ago lol and I loved that bike !!! My friend had a 2020 and those are the only YZ 250 strokers I have ever ridden ( I have had KTMs a couple 2005/2005 Huskys , so not a ton of time on them over the years , I am 6'4 and 190 lbs so maybe a bit big for one but to be honest I would race that 01 today with some suspension wk for todays standards I like it that much !!! Great video and demo today - thank you for all you do for the dirt riders out there

Millville is an iconic track! The downdraft intakes on the YZ250/450F are such a fundamental design advantage when it comes to making power and quick engine response. I really like the design concept. Deegs (like Jett) is a generational talent and so fun to watch these guys ride and race.

Awesome bike! Could you pull 3rd gear easy enough? That been sort of my problem on my 24
@mxengineer13 ай бұрын
Yes this bike's modded engine easily pulls 3rd gear now. The stock 24 YZ250 lost a tick of that low to mid torque response at the initial turn of the throttle.

Taller rider 6'2 160lbs trying to figure out my next bike. Could you compare the riders triangle/ergonomics between the 24 yamaha and ktm? How about gripping bike with legs? Struggle with that on my 17 yamaha. Looking for a longer power delivery and less engine braking too. Great channel and really appreciate your content. I think yamaha has improved for taller riders but wonder how it compares to ktm.

Here is a back to back ride on the 23 KTM 450 FE and 23 YZ450F - ergo wise represent the current bikes. The new YZ layout is better for taller riders however the YZ has a tall seat height and I can notice that in corners. KTM feels good for my 6'2" 190 body though perhaps slightly tighter ergo's overall compared to the YZ. The Yamaha seat is hard and rounded which is polarizing for some riders and has been noted in magazine reviews. I am not a big leg gripper rider so both feel similar to me though the Yamaha has a little wider feel as I stand and move back on the bike (the side shrouds stick out farther on the YZ). Engine power - not sure which model you are asking about....250F or 450F. The Yamaha downdraft intake 250/450F's both have 2-stroke like snappy throttle response with less vibration than the same KTM models and both are loud enough to require ear plugs. KTM 250/450F engines rev a little slower (especially the 450) compared to the YZ but make more power mid to high RPM. Back to back 450's... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKOaYp6Iptdkf7c

@@mxengineer1 Thanks for taking the time and in depth comments and analysis! I will watch the video. I appreciate all the work put into them. I think end of the day that I need to ride them to compare.

@@JimG1964 Yes riding them for yourself will be the best comparison!

seems to take a lot of money to make it better than stock

That is a challenge with 250F's. According to MXA the stock YZ250F makes about 43 hp at the rear wheel so that is about 172hp/liter which is a high level of performance out of the engine. The YZ450F makes 58hp so that is about 129hp/liter - much lower level of tuning so more potential to get more power...one thing the YZ450F does not need! So making any 250F more powerful is going to be an expensive project but it sure is fun to feel the extra power!

@@mxengineer1 what was the number for my 1986 cr125 per liter? pro circuit modded it back in the day and made it 36hp where stock was 32..... 32 x 8?

@@Joe-pb3lx I used HP at the rear wheel on a dyno (usually about 15% loss between the crankshaft through transmission to rear wheel so 36 - 15% = 30.6hp...lets say 31hp at the rear wheel....31hp/0.125L = 248hp/liter...2-strokes are highly tuned!
