I will always and forever appreciate high level mma fighters who do breakdowns and make channels like this. For a self taught mma fighter like me, this is gold. Ive been using the jab shift switch stance because of you. Or the lead hook into side step switch stance. This vid had more info I didnt know of. Like blocking round kicks with the "arm pit"

Seriously. This shit is evergreen content. Ten years in the future it will still be relevant and helpful. Quality over novelty. Quality over quantity. Even dummy UFC announcers can respect this shit.

Watching this after Strickland’s win over Adesanya. He was really effective with a more normal Philly Shell 😮. Good to see how things that should not work, actually work!
@keion_arknights Жыл бұрын
Strickland brings his hands up more when he enters boxing range. He has the classic lead hand low pretty much only when relaxed out of range or in kicking range in order to parry body kicks and x block high kicks. His hands go up instantly when the hands start coming to parry punches and he uses a lot of forearm blocks even.

The main reason Sean won against Izzy was not his Philly Shell, it was because he read Izzy like a book and had those insane reflexes, I don't know how he did it, maybe because he sparred a lot before the fight, maybe because Izzy wanted to play safe, maybe Sean got his confidence boosted from the first round and Izzy got his confidence crushed, anyway, Sean did not look this crispy fighting other guys, if Izzy just brawl with Sean and actually do some damage to make him respect, the fight might look different.

Great stuff Mr Sandman. Been a huge fan of you ever since your UFC debut, favorite fighter to watch ever since. If you are truly a nerd of masterful details and the art of mixing all these arts together and making it look beautiful and violent at the same time, there aint a single fighter better to geek out about. Been researching your fights, training footage and podcasts and whatever to try and pick your mind for valuable concepts for a long time. So all these youtube clips and instructional series that’s about to release is a blessing my man. Can’t wait to learn new stuff to share with my students and see what they make of it. Lots of love my man!

@@rioblazezo7731they actually don't matter in mma scoring, only if the damage is equal then you go to control time, but it doesn't matter if your getting out damaged which Corey was doing to tj

Thanks for breaking down boxing in mma. Don’t know if you wanna try it but an old school boxing trick to defend the uppercut is to catch it with the rear hand. When it comes you just place your rear hand in front of your chin like a catchers mit and catch the punch, to further mitigate force from the punch you can slightly roll your head with it. If you get good at this you can counter that uppercut when you catch it with the left hook or straight right hand( after you catch the uppercut)

Awesome from a boxing background I'm always thinking on how to apply this philly shell for mma, I use my elbows a lot to deflect and comeback as well with elbows.

You can solve the high kick problem by using the Lean back, Thai style. The position is almost identical to the classic philly shell, your opponent gets to a disadvantageous position and you don't get hit at all.

Thank you Cory 🙏 I was laughed at by one of my first coaches when asking about the Philly in Muay Thai class. I’ve always felt uncomfortable with a tradition guard in MT/MMA so I ended up developing a similar style always stuffing/jabbing/hand fighting at my opponent w my lead hand. Thanks again for validating my instinctive style and showing a much greater version

Yea this isn't a philly shell at all. Not protecting body with lead arm and not shoulder rolling incoming crosses.. Its literally just a long guard idk why he's calling it a modified philly shell?
