An easy little project to make a quick draw holster for my Leatherman Wave, something that would function much like what Adam Savage had made for his Wave that I saw him use many times at the Project Egress build at the Air and Space Museum. Enjoy!

Assuming you're not opposed to leather, you can also make a really slick personalized quick-draw sheath by picking up some scrap "tooling leather" and "wet forming" it to the Leatherman.

Gooouuud Job Fran don't get me wrong your efforts are really Top GRADE but now that attatchment point is still the belt . After all this is still concidered a pocket tool right well with what you've showed me and others I am going to make the real pocket attachment this tool really is with clamps Load knows I've got way more than I need already on my Belt.

Just discovered today how good that Juki 562 is - '3 way feed' (ie needle _and_ walking foot) is worth a video on its own Fran ! I know I keep badgering you to make a vid about your industrial sewing machines, but really I think you should - I wanna know which type of motor (clutch or servo) you have on them, an'all that. Anyone with a shred of engineering in them ought to find this appealing. Or is it just me ? Haha. Maybe.

The 'old' wave without the inserts that get lost ROCKS! Too bad they changed it for the worst. Used it in Rock n Roll and then the oilfield for 2 decades. Getting harder to find the good ones when they get lost to the sea or whatnot.

Nice mod Fran. My Waves both have leather pouches - 2 different designs too - so cutting the flap off/removing the stud would be even easier than on your fabric one here. I now have to go off and look into how your walking foot sewing machine works - I had no idea that the needle stitches _while_ the material is clamped and in motion, wow - the complication of timing with the bobbin that introduces :o) You should do a vid about that machine, when you have a moment !

@@FranLab Doh ! I do understand though. :o( The walking foot sewing machine (I found some footage) is a wonderful thing - (I own a normal domestic machine, and so I'm biased) - I then had to look up the zigzag walking foot machine and how on earth _that_ works by comparison :o) You might get away with just describing the hardware, which becomes more of a mechanics thing rather than a sewing thing ? It's _such_ a shame that you have to tune your output so carefully Fran - what the hell is wrong with some people ? Don't answer that, I believe I know :o)))

I don't see the purpose of doing all that work and ruin the holster with a big hole on the front🙄... Just fold the flap back over the belt to keep it pressed against your waist and out of the way allowing to have a quick access to the multi-tool. At the end of the day unfold the flap and snap it back in place.

Something to keep in mind. Technically, it is illegal to have *any* knife on you in the city of Philadelphia, unless you are using it as part of your job. A co-worker found this out the hard way. He had one of those folding "lunchbox" knives ( spoon/fork/knife combo) confiscated out of his lunchbox by a passing cop ( he was a stage lighting guy, eating lunch outside). He laughed about it, but we looked it up and it's true...you can't have any knife on you in Philly. Technically. How often you'd get grief over a Leatherman or Swiss Army knife is anyone's guess, but oh-ficially, it is illegal.

Any knife that can be opened with one hand is considered a switch-blade by law enforcement in Philly so its very illegal to carry around, and so having it stolen is not a problem here just cause you can't do it. Well, you can do it - but getting caught means mandatory jail time.

Sucks, that in Germany we have to put locks on bags to make Leathermans somewhat legal to carry.

@laurensa.1803 5 жыл бұрын
What? I thought German law wasn't that stringent.
@randomdudeontheinternet4389
@randomdudeontheinternet4389 5 жыл бұрын
@@laurensa.1803 I mean, it's a little more complicated. The Leatherman models with blades, that you can open and lock with one hand, when the tool is closed are classified as one handed knives, which are not allowed to be carried. There is a loophole for this though, as transportation of such objects is allowed. Transport is defined as something being safe from unauthorized use. Therefore a lock should do. Right now I transport my surge in this way: I put a LM Lanyard Ring onto it and made a hole in the holster for the ring to go through. I also made a hole in the flap of the holster so I can put a really shitty lock through the hole in the flap and the Lanyard Ring, locking the tool in. It's somewhat quick to get out and it can't get confiscated (or so I hope).

@@randomdudeontheinternet4389 the nice thing with Leathermans is the scales are usually removable. I got one for a friend who lived in Germany once and just added a thin metal plate under the scale to reduce access to the thumb hole. With only a thin notch available, it becomes a "nail nick" two-handed opener just like a typical swiss army knife.
