Modify a thermostat for Opel/GM A14NEL/A14NET to open from 103°C to 80°C

I'm showing in this video how to replace a thermostat core from one housing to another.
I have here two thermostats:
1) Mahle TM 37 80 - DONOR(opens at 80°C)
2) Mahle TM 36 103 - the part that fits the engine A14NEL/A14NET(opens at 103°C)
Do, i take the core from the donor and i fit it into the housing that fits my car.
These engines are running extreme hot and i want to modify the working temperature, to lower it in order not to stress the hoses and give more life to the engine!
Many GM cars are equiped with this engine: Chevrolet Cruze, Opel Astra J, Meriva B....

good morning, I've done it too, but in the test done with hot water before mounting it on the machine the thermostat doesn't open the valve, I can't understand why the cylinder doesn't lift the valve...😥

hi. did you tried with electricity?(12v) is hard to test it with water on the bench... my car is running fine with this modification and the resistor in parallel to the engine coolant temperature sensor(with delay contact)! tested for about 20k km!

everything is still ok with these modifications? I'll try next week... you only put a resistor of 365 ohms on ECT sensor? cause I have another one on my radiator... thank you for the good job!!

Hi. I put a resistor in parallel with the engine cooland temperature sensor, the one on the engine(not on the radiator), but, this resistor is connected only after about 6 minute of engine work(time relay). Or you could connect it manually via a switch, when the temperature is above 60°C. This way you will not have the error wich says thermostat is not working as it should(bellow desired temperature). I still didn't found time to post an update video... But, with this, i don't have error and ECU is seeying 101-103°C, like with the original thermostat, but, in reality is at about 85-86°C. And at 109-110°C, in reality is about 93°C. If you decide to make this modification, please update me with the result. Once again, that resistor in parallel with the ECT should NOT pe connected permanently!!! Thanks

Quindi il TM 37 80 misura 11,8 ohm mentre il TM 36 103 misura 16 ohm, giusto? Hai semplicemente adattato il sensore di temperatura. Dopo questa modifica, come va la macchina? Hai riscontrato qualche problema?

Hi. I can reply to you in english. 11,8 ohm makes the thermostat to open quicker(it gets hot quicker than 16 ohm). The result, after cutting about 2mm from the rod(see my post) is: while driving, the temperature varies between 78-83°C and while engine is on but the car is standing still(more than 10 minutes), it behaves as with the original thermostat. Goes up to 108°C and the it opens and the fan is starting and goes down to 93°C. I'm not that happy with this, but i'm working on something else(with the original 103°C thermostat), just waiting for parts. Electronic controlling. Stay tunned! 👍

Yesterday i got P0128 fault code. But, i'm working on a solution for that. A thermal switch and a resistor in parallel to the engine coolant temperature sensor. Stay tuned!

@@marjanmeskov9995 with this 80°C thermostat and a timing relay wich connects a 365 ohm resistor in parallel with the coolant temperature sensor after about 6 minutes of engine on, i'm verry happy with the modification. ECU sees about 101-103°C and in reality is about 86-87°C and the fan turns on at 108°C(ECU see) and in reality is about 93°C! I need a few days more to film the video that proove this! 👍 no errors! Everything ok!

@@adaniel69 That seems fine, but how did you solve the problem when the computer wants to force open the thermostat and in reality it is open, and the computer expects a temperature change but nothing happens. This usually happens during sudden acceleration and previously you were driving at a constant speed 70-80kmh ,and at that moment the error appears. And there are other such moments, especially with the air conditioning is on

@@marjanmeskov9995 as i said, i don't have any errors since this relay/resistor install. I've driven my car for more than 5000 km with this and everything is ok! That temperature drop that you're talking about is happening! So, ECU is not complaining!
