WOW ! Can't possibly thank you enough Mike/HL. Exactly what I was after (and no, you are not my father-in-law... I'm 76). Anybody who follows this single video step by step will for sure thereafter in ONE video understand the almost limitless power of Tinkercad in the right hands, and how you may put off the pain of learning Fusion 360 indefintiely. Without a doubt the best, most entertaining and responsive Tinkercad Jedi on the planet ! Thank you, thank you ! Folks, you are crazy to not subscribe !

A very important point which hopefully the author will address and clarify is whether one half of the hinge can be rotated relative to the other half to see how it may interface with parts it is going to be affixed to. The whole problem I had with hinges downloaded from Thingiverse, etc., in the first place is that both halves were fixed flat together. There was no way, for example, to make the halves at right angles to each other to fit them against something before joining and printing the whole collection of the hinge and the parts they are joined to.

Sorry..DOH ! Rewatched the tut and its clear at the beginning that indeed the hinge is now fully articulatable. to the desired angle to attach to the model parts a desired. MAJOR advance from having to print out flat hinges and then glue them to the model parts at the needed angle ! Thanks again !

I am not sure about a specific one, but this one shows how to use the axle. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXuXYWSXmJqgptk

How can you then position one half of the hinge at a desired angle relative to the other half and bring it back into the 3D Design in Tinkercad to attach it to another object at that angle. I'm just now learning the pivoting thing and having trouble so I can't find out for myself. And is there a graduated sequence of KZbin videos for learning Simlab ?

Sim lab is really just a fun way to experience a bit of physics with your creation. Are you hoping to make a design with hinges that 3D print and work?

@@HLModTech Yes. I've printed some downloaded "print-in-place" hinges that work fine alone after being printed (i.e. the two halves move independently of each other as intended). But, again, the problem is when I am designing a model with such a hinge imported into Tinkercad, the hinge halves are frozen together flat. They need to be not flat as they were when imported, but at an angle in Tinkercad to join be joined to the two parts of the model at an angle I think I understand now. Your process separates the two halves of the hinge which were "frozen" together when downloaded from Thingiverse. One half can then be adjusted in its angle relative to the other half in Tinkercad to then join the halves at something other than the flatness they were at when imported into Tinkercad. Correct ? Moving the two hinge halves in Sim Lab is irrelevant and just "fun". As long as they have been freed up per your method/rebuild, I can position one half as needed in Tinkercad independently of the other half.

Generally, they will not work unless they are printed flat... that way the printer can safely print the gaps around the pins and such. Users would then glue (or screw in the non printed world) their hinges in place. This video shows you how to place items where you want with the workplane. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooenZmtngbubodE The printing would be a real problem though.
