Always make your tools work for you instead of you working around them. However, something I do with many of my tools is asymmetrical notching. When you notch, mark the grooving at your fingers and palm differently. Partly for comfort, but also so you can adjust grip, orientation, and angle without looking. Some handles are very symmetrical around the circumference. This helps in those situations. Asymmetrical shaped handles dont often need this adjustment. I just noticed you went symmetrical and rounded... food for thought.

It's true, it's nice to have a refrence you can feel, a little groove along the very bottom of the handle in line with the blade edge is what I did, I figured best for precision. obviously you can just use some part of the knife itself as a reference and not modify it, sometimes easier than others though, but always possible.

a lot of people don't seem to know this, the reason a lot of mid end actual-use knives (especially wooden handles) is specifically so you can carve or sand it down to fit you perfectly, nowadays most companies lacquer their wooden handles because it's fairly old knowledge that nobody seems to be doing. Definitely has saved me a few blisters

You can also press the edges with the spine of a blade or sand them with sandpaper. Then coat oil paint or linseed oil🙌

My new favorite texturing for grippy handles is stippling with the woodburner. Takes a while but it looks a lot nicer than when I just use some 40 grit 😂

Honestly, this is a great way to get more value out of cheaper, but still high quality, knives. I used to do similar surgery to Opinals. At the time, I had more time than money but still needed good knives. Now, I have a little more money, but the process and customization insures I'll love the end result.

For anyone watching, dont try this unless you have a very very VERY sharp knife and a lot of patiense and skill. Carving the way he did with a dull blade will cut you and dull cuts bleed alot and take a long time to heal.

If you’re trying to smooth it out you can take a somewhat sharp knife and take little pieces at a time very fast and lightly like you’re sharpening a pencil. Don’t try to dig in real hard, just knock those raised parts off. Then you can sand

Everyones hands are different this is just for his comfort when using this knife. Thats why its good thing lot of these carving knives comes with bit over sized handles because easier to just modify rather than replacing the entire handle
