Very inventive ! And looks right to boot, perhaps you could use a brown paint stick....albeit it would be slow, of course you don't have to do the base's.👀👍

I actually looked at several ways to do that. Ron @classicmodeltrains probably had the best. Paint would work as well. I'm going to explore best ways to to do this.

did you try to remove the black ties all together and use wood all along the track

On t he very first piece I did yes. Ypu would need track nails to male it right and hold. Later version heels better with the black tie in place. I however did not paint the ties on those sections. I will eventually get around to painting them.

I do like menards o gauge track. It's very versatile. If you really wasted to...you could remove the plates and hand spike the ties. Thays another old school trick.
