India has made commendable progress in infrastructure and electricity, but clean drinking water for everyone is of utmost importance. It is the most basic need. Major infrastructure plans should include comprehensive water resource management. The water from natural sources like rivers should be the main source of water distribution, as groundwater levels have significantly depleted. It now requires digging ten times deeper to access drinking water. While rainwater harvesting is a viable option, it primarily benefits lakes and other water bodies. Preserving groundwater for emergencies is imperative. We must prioritise harnessing every drop from natural sources for human consumption and irrigation purposes.
