I wonder why Thales outsources the configuration and operating software. As an integrated defense company, it seems like they would benefit from owning the entire stack, particularly the software, to lock militaries into long-term support contracts.

because requirements wouldn't allow such thing. they wouldn't win contracts

unlike the Americans with the F35, there is no or very little technology transfer, nor really participation, at least a minimum, we French trust our allies or friends to participate in a program! but if you think that France is incapable of making computer programs, look at the very powerful CATIA software from Dassault Aviation, and the programs in the Rafale or in our nuclear-powered submarines! French arms companies are among the first in the world for innovations, the Americans bought the CAPATAS 4 from us to put in their FFG destroyers! even in processors, in 2012, a French company released a very advanced 256-core processor!! Don't believe that France is just an accordion, a beret or a baguette under your arm, our Rafale is certainly the best 4+ generation aircraft in the world!! even during Fukushima, the Japanese came to France and bought our cameras because they are better resistant to strong radiation to put on their drones, and yet, the Japanese are not beginners in electronics!!

Both OMT and Sistematic are Danish companies. They are hoping some of that defense spending cash will be required to be spent in Denmark, creating Danish jobs. And who can blame them?
