This jumps straight to the top of the list for my next multi-tool purchase. Great scissors, non proprietary bit holder and fixings, chose your blade type (locking/non locking) or chose no blade at all. Great quality materials and construction, it ticks all the boxes for me. The only logical thing to do next is a whole removable folder with a handle in some supersteel. Like a mini Spyderco with thin titanium liners. They have to be very thin so that people dont carry them separately all the time.
@matthewpeterson3329 Жыл бұрын
This truly is a game changer. Personally, I rarely have a use for most of the included tools, but because they are all flat, it would be super easy to design your own tools and send/cut/send laser cut your own ideas out of any material of that specific thickness. For example, I often need the same handful of specific feeler gauges... why not use a blank with no features, and precision grind you own set of gauge thicknesses, say 5 across one blade. I also regularly need to work on fire truck air lines... so have a blank ground with a variety slots for the various sized airlines so you can easily pull back that "shark bite" fitting when they get crusty, rather than using pliers. The imagination runs wild with possibilities.

To tell this is what I was waiting for, full modular MT. I mean there is MTs with minimum modularity, like Bit drivers, a blade change system, but nothing like every tool that could be changed. And also when there is such options the whole system is limited. The surge, The phantom, The multi plier, just to name a few models are a step in the right direction, but none of them fully went into fully modular. They at best try one key modular feature, then nothing else. Sometimes you get one big modular slot, sometimes it's the plier, then you can get a driver or utility cutters. Also some tools doesn't exist as an option, also some pliers aren't used because the needle nose is usually more funtionnal. As for a criticism most MTs are designed for camping and while this is good, I would love them being more thought around Professionnals, like having things for one kind of job, like plumbers, mechanics, electricians, computer repair, etc...

THIS is the direction Leatherman should have gone when they released the Free series. Full modularity easily done by the end user without the risk of voiding warranty. THAT would have been freeing, not freaking magnets! lol They could have even kept the good sized and nicer quality tools of the Rebar/Wave/whatever style tools and not dumbed them down to Wingman/Sidekick level like they did with the Free stuff. Leatherman is probably just a small part of a bloated marketing machine. Companies look to what everyone else is doing which is instrumentalism instead of real innovation and the building of a true standardized platform out of fear that standardization will destroy profits which in the long run is a possibility.
@blade9292 Жыл бұрын
@@pcofranc Actually platforms can evolve, and they can be made with different kind of modularity. Also they can think of new tools and tinker around their form factor. For example designing two tools, one who is based on a screwdriver handle and the other one with a plier based one. The handle for exemple will take saw blades, screwdriver blades, 1/4 hex drive 1/4 square drive, files, wood scissors, brushes, push pull manual drill (mostly for wood and plastic) The pliers will have modular plier heads that can be swapped, so you can get pliers for différent jobs like the screw pliers in various forms, cutting pliers with cable cutters, then modular knife slots so you can get 4 modular main blades with normal knife blades, serrated, electrician, scalpel, utility knife, thin multi wrench, thin wrench set, a couple of modular minitools like a hook, a reamer and scraper, can opener, etc... Even if there is missing tools like hammer, scissors, pry tools or probably an additionnal tool that includes these three, I think there is some strong potential...

As an electrician that does strictly remodels this is an absolute essential tool. kzbin.infoUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI Being able to precision cut any material with a light weight tool is priceless.I upgraded to this Dewalt 20v from a competitor's 12v. The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.
@johnsanford35962 жыл бұрын
it's about frickin' time someone did this. Leatherman had BETTER be paying attention. Excellent first look, I didn't even know this thing existed, but I sure as heck am going to get one. I think that file is a disgrace. The Wave's diamond file is my most used tool, by far. Why? Because it's perfect for fingernails. It appears that a bit more thought should have gone into the actual feel in the hand, seems like there MAY be some hot spots. I do think the non-radiused top edges of the pliers is a definite shortcoming. The radiused pliers on the Wave are the standard shape in the single purpose needle nose plier world. I think you're right that this may be a game changer for the multi-tool world.

I wish it had a wire stripper or an option for one as an accessory. I'm aware you can strip a wire with a knife quite easily, but even a little notch on a can opener like what one finds on the Leatherman Wave is superior to a knife. I find myself using the wire stripper on the Wave all the time, even when I have a dedicated stripper at hand. Either because I'm on a ladder and my bulky dedicated strippers didn't make the initial climb due to needing other tools first or when working with someone else that doesn't have a wire stripper, so we're sharing the dedicated stripper. It's so nice to always have an option in your pocket.

Yes, I *really hope* this forces the hand of bigger MT companies, like Gerber, SOG, Leatherman, etc. I don't see Leatherman coming out with a modular/customizable tool anytime soon... but Gerber or SOG might. Especially Gerber, who I know everyone loves to sht on, but has been making some great moves lately! It seems like they have been scanning the market, and paying attention to what people have been asking for, and *actually doing it!* Their Centerdrive custom shop, for example..giving people the opportunity to mix & match popular colors, like Coyote & OD Green, thus making the tool look brand new and very desirable, despite some of its obvious flaws. Sure, it is expensive, but the fact that the mere option is there, for folks who are willing to pay it, is a great step in the right direction. They've also made a big swing in putting full size bit drivers in alot of their newer tools, obviously, thus paying attention to what the people want lol, so I can very easily see them taking some existing frame (that would allow for it), and using it as a way of giving folks the option of choosing between a set number of tools, what goes in it. They don't have nearly as much to lose, as say Leatherman might, if they did that, and really everything to *gain!* On a side note, I *LOOVE* that the GOAT tool (appropriately named) made it so their full size bit driver *also* would still work with the LM flat bits! I've always had a vision for a bit driver that would accept both *intentionally.* Basically, you would take the Leatherman Bit Extender, and in the middle of the hole, you would put two little ledges that would catch the full size bit going down, before it sank to the bottom. You could still keep the spring thingy in there for retention, and/or, you could have a powerful magnet on the side. I love the full size bits, but I think it's still important to have bit drivers that *intentionally* support *both.* I keep my LM Bit Kits, Bit Extender, and Firesteel all in my wallet, and pocket carry my Wave+, and that's what makes them so great, the *portability.* So I hope, going forward, that we continue to see bit drivers that intentionally support *both.* Great review, I too am very excited about this tool, and what it may bring for the future.

Or just pop the locking blade out, and keep it in the pouch when out anywhere public. I'm a bit wary of using any sharp non locking blades, as I've got so used to using locking blades. I don't want to forget and slice my fingers off! So will go with locking blade, and pop the blade out, when I need to.

I would love to review one for Facebook group that’s so awsome. Usually if I do reviews than guys want to buy it which is good for the maker. If I review something and give good feedback I can make sales. I love the design of this tool. I can’t wait to see guys testing this out in the field

Also a minor point to mention is that if you just can't fit one of the tools in your multitool; the individual tools looks perfect to change into a keychain by using the deployment hole as a lanyard loop.

I personally don't think that these modular multitools will make the industry change. Mostly because people, from what I've seen, don't really care if the tool is modular or not, they just want a tool that works. So for most people I don't think the price will be justified. However I do think that alot of multitool enthusiasts will get it simply because it's the first of its sort.
@yadda_tools2 жыл бұрын
Not the first or second, might be considered third. You are correct, modularity is a neat concept, but it doesn't tend to sell well long term.
@simonh63712 жыл бұрын
In my case I use knives/multitools for urban EDC but also as I'm into outdoor activities like camping, mountain biking, bushcraft etc. I have different ones I use for those different scenarios, I don't really need a saw and inline reamer day to day in the city, but I do in the woods. Likewise I'm unlikely to need a bit driver or metal file in the woods. So for people like me - and judging by the comments I read on yt vids about SAKs/multitools etc. from many countries, there are many like me - it is a good solution and had it been around 3 years ago when I started buying SAKs and multitools, I'd have bought this as my one and done fullsize multitool, the fact that you can add allen bits also means you can take it on bike rides instead of a bike multitool which you normally need to carry in tandem with some kind of pliers anyway.

This seems like everything I have been looking for in a multi-tool as an ironworker. Even got the hex bits for changing out the gooseneck on a suitcase welder gun. How is the pocket clip? I am in a lot of awkward positions on high steel. Would be good not to have it fall out of my pocket.

This tool, especially given this is the first run(?), blows me away. This is the type of innovation I have been hoping for. The Multi-tool mod community is awesome, but I'm not capable of most of what is required. Here, I don't have to be handy. Its awesome. If this was developed even more, I could see carrying two while, let's say, camping with different compliments of tools. Not only this, but I could see other companies making inserts for this?! How cool would that be? This has potential written all over it and it's already pretty sweet.

This is game changer. This has so much potential. Thank you for the video. I could sense the excitement in your voice. Only one complain so far they shud have gone with sog pliers which has the leverage technology and it will s the smoothest for the bit attachment they shud have gone with how sog powerpoint does it on the back of the pliers. it is in the centre and only a ratchet hole is required one can maybe use a leatherman ratchet. This ratchet i understand will support almost all the bits.

The new video on Goat Tools Modular multitool is amazing! It got me thinking - while the Leatherman Squirt PS4 has always been my favorite pocket mini multitool, a mini version of the Goat Tools could be a game changer. The Squirt's metal file alone set it apart from all competitors. Imagine a modular tool with that kind of standout feature! If they release a mini version, I'm definitely buying a few - for myself and as the perfect gifts for friends. What an incredible idea, a modular tool like this!

Excellent review! I’m way more impressed with it than I thought I’d be. Not sure if it’ll unseat the wave as my edc, but we’ll see. Definitely has its advantages over the wave, but also some disadvantages. The wave cutters are way better, try cutting 12-2 romex with the goat. Bet it won’t. The cutters look so small. Personally I’m not a fan of spring loaded pliers, but I could live with it. Lastly, a feature even leatherman messes up sometimes (particularly the P4), is the roundedness of the handles where they meet your palm when squeezing the pliers. The wave/surge are amazing in this area. The goat looks like it’ll be decent, but not as good as the wave. This really matters when you are squeezing hard to cut wire. Maybe with the scales it’ll help round them out. The scale option is really cool! I’m sure I will give this cool new tool a try.

Hey man love the content do you know if a leatherman t4 knife could be installed on the free p2 to get rid of the combo knife appreciate it
@maxlvledc2 жыл бұрын
never tried it..but I cant see a reason why it wouldnt work.
@GeertSawek2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. However you will be left with a plain edge knife of the same length as the plain edge portion of the P2 combo, so I don't really see the point. The plain edge from a P4 will fit it as well. The serrated section is useful for cutting rope and straps, etc.

How about the ergonomics when using the pliers? Does the tool bite in your hand? Or is it comfortable at least as Wave?
@DefMunkyYT2 жыл бұрын
According to the Indigogo page it was designed not to bite when using the pliers. I don't know about the edges of the tool, but they did build in a gap between the handles.

One additional feature that leaps out at my old eyes while you're reviewing the Pliers part of this Goat Tool are the sharp edges on - and smoothly graduaed taper of the outer plier edges - thus making this part of the tool an excellent internal pipe reamer for conduits and the like. Now we'll let you carry on until I pick up on anything else you may miss...
