New version - • Power Modules v2 with ...
--
Here I made a 12v 100Ah Modular Power Wall with removable cells from 18650 cells salvaged from old laptop batteries. I made a these pcbs for the Powerwall, where there are glass fuses to show if any cell is shorted and can be easily serviced. I used my previously made 40cell Charging & Capacity Testing Station to know the capacity of the cells for repacking the cells in to proper battery packs.
I was contacted by JLCPCB a few months ago about their interest in sponsoring some of my projects and providing me with pcbs to speed up my projects. So I decided to restart my 18650 battery pack build project that I've always wanted to do for a ago time but got busy.

• 40 Cell 18650 Charging...
40cell Capacity Testing Station for 18650
• 40 Cell 18650 Capacity...
Many more 18650 related videos to come.

I actually did one of these inspired by this video. Granted, not as clean because I have not ordered the pcbs, nor are they fused, but it's great for modularity and my favorite configuration out of any I've seen so far. I had around 54 cells that weren't being used at all. (Tested though) The video deserves millions of views in my opinion, as does your subscriber count. Great stuff.

After measuring the resistance of those leaf spring contacts using cell holders in any kind of large scale system is a big NOPE from me. The PCB is a good idea if someone wanted to do this on a smaller scale to understand how powerwalls work but there is far too much current flowing in a residential system to have cobalt based cells in cheap plastic holders with steel as the interconnect material

Very nice, clean and easy project. I was thinking. Would it be possible to put in every holder on both side 3spotwelded 18650's together? This way you could triple your capacity.

That's been done before, so that should work. You may want to make some supports for the batteries though. These holders use a clamping force to keep the batteries in, I'm doubtful they will stay where they are if you put more cells in each slot.

It would be good if you gave all the measurement details for your jig assembly as well as you've obviously experimented to get the build just right to fit your hands between the modules etc. Save other re-inventing the wheel and possibly making the same mistakes along the way.

Just for clarity; each stack is 48 cells connected in parallel (24 on each side) or 1S48p. This would produce 4v 106Ah stack. Then they are connected in three stacks in series to produce 3S48P or 12v 106Ah; did I do the math right?

have you considered making a similar PCB but using a setup like Joan Olaria and his powerwall? something you can link together in series using the glass fuses? since I don't know how to put my ideas into a real product, maybe you can? I used your gerber files to get 5 4cell discharge boards and 5 8cell charge boards using the TP5100. since I don't have TP5100's I'll rewire it for TP4056's. thanks again for your files, i've been looking for something like this for a couple years now.

@Sekir80
@Sekir80 5 ай бұрын
@@FBPrepping Yes. He "wastes" the PCB serving as a connector only. Puts cells into holders (if you use holders you could just wire them up). If you use a PCB you can pack the cells in a grid, 10 by 10 would give you roughly 1 kWh, that would be around 20 by 20 by 7-8 cm. You can pack them even tighter if you use honeycomb arrangement instead of grid. This design uses around 50 by 40 by 8 cm of space. Great for show, but nothing more. Edit: watch his v2. Waaaay better!

@ericklein5097
@ericklein5097 Жыл бұрын
@@nedzadi As long as you make sure that the charging side of the UPS is not connected and the only connection to the pack is the to the inverter then you should be fine. Hopefully they use two sets of wires for the charging part of the PCB and the inverter but many UPS's do not and it is bundled together and on the same PCB. You could cut the traces on the PCB for the charging portion of the circuit so when the inverter is not in use that energy cannot flow from the charging circuit into the batteries BUT you have to make sure that does not effect the pass through capability of the UPS. So you really need to understand the UPS and having a schematic is the best way to make sure cutting traces is not going to ruin your entire UPS. I guess it would help to have multiple units so you could practice on one and then mess around with it. Pull the plug, plug it back in, pull the plug, plug it back in but make sure the device you have connected is something simple like a fan because you could damage a computer easily doing this if you fucked up the circuit.
