:) I have a question for you. I am just about to start a modular system. I was thinking about getting the TipTopAudio 909Hats Module. I am a big fan of the 909 hihats. Do you think this is a good idea or would I be able to make similar sounds myself using other modules?
@tuesdaynightmachines9 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the biggest question in Eurorack-Land: "Will this module do, or are there others?" :-P Simple answer: There are always others (well, almost always). But if you want 909 Hats in your modular, then get the module. It's what it is meant to do :) Other modules might be similar or maybe even more versatile, but the TipTop drum modules sound great and do what they should do.
@RudefoodArchive9 жыл бұрын
hehe ok thanks- I thought maybe I could design it in some clever way using wires going into a combinations these clever sounding 3 letter word modules :) . it seems there are not so many hats modules out there - i much prefer it to the mutant 808 sound. Its selling on eBay so I think I'm gonna go for it! Thanks for your willingness to help- really great :) And all the videos are so clear and well made- you are a great teacher!

My way- 1-behringer neutron 2- buy used basic units (Doepfer) (vca.mixer, enveloppe gate, vca, vco) 3- make -patch cables, (power supply), power bus-board, some patch-cables 4- buy kits (vcf and vco) 5- make some basic units,, like attenuators, mixers, multipliers

I think it's too small and shallow. When you're starting out, you shouldn't limit yourself like that. Get 6U @ 84hp, with proper depth (at least 8cm) so that all kinds of modules will fit inside.
@jupitermenace99209 жыл бұрын
Great videos. You have inspired me to move in the direction of building an effects Eurorack around my MicroBrute. Now with the news of the release Minilogue and MatrixBrute I'm not so sure, being I'm very interested both of these new synths. Do you have any opinions? Thanks.
@tuesdaynightmachines9 жыл бұрын
Well, if you already have the MicroBrute then I'd just try Eurorack. A Modular will always be more flexible and customized to your needs than a prebuilt synth, although the Matrixbrute and Minilogue seem really cool too. It's just two different kinds of things and Modulars are (obviously ;-) an amazing world of gear.

Sorry, I have another question for you. Do you think that the Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizer Box would be redundant as a starting module since I already have a MicroBrute? Just looking at all my options.
@tuesdaynightmachines8 жыл бұрын
Yes, in fact I don't like semi-modular Eurorack modules like the PM Synthbox. They're just not modular enough. Get an external Semi instead (like the MB) and then just get individual modules for VCO, VCA, Etc in your Eurorack case.
@jupitermenace99208 жыл бұрын
Excellent. Thank you. Clears that up for me.

i didn't get a thing: how can I listen to a modular synth? Taking the audio signal form a vca or at any point in the machine and put it in a audio interface feeding monitors/headphones is enough? Or do I need some special modules? How is the standard way to listen the audio coming from it?
@tuesdaynightmachines9 жыл бұрын
You can really just take the audio signal from anywhere you want. VCA, Mixer, VCO, Filter, etc. The audio signal can be really loud though, so having an attenuator or mixer module with a volume knob at the end of the chain is usually a good idea.

Is the TipTIp Happy Ending compatible with Doepfer? Are they both the same bus and -12v / +12v? I have seen some that are -15v / +15v and this confuses me.. why two different voltages? I am interested in Ardcore working with Doepfer.. but the Ardcore wants +-15v not +-12v right? I am new to all this and don't own anything yet. Thinking of starting with MicroBrute and go from there.
@tuesdaynightmachines8 жыл бұрын
+Jennifer Gwinn Doepfer is Eurorack, as is the TipTop HE Kit. Everything "Eurorack" should be compatible and should also be 12V. I'm not aware that there are modules requiring 15V.
@marike11008 жыл бұрын
Moog Mother-32, rather than a Microbrute. Of course it's double the price, but more flexible as the Moog can be mounted into a Eurorack case or Moog sells decent sized single Eurorack cases ($99 for 60 HP, $109 for 104 HP) for adding modules to.
@tuesdaynightmachines8 жыл бұрын
+Markus Arike sure, while this video is about getting in there for "cheap", there are obviously lots of other options out there. The Dreadbox Erebus is also really cool, for example. I'm not sure if I'd want the Mother32 taking up space in my rack though :D
@saocir9 жыл бұрын
sorry for the noob question lol but what is the main difference between a vca, attenuator and mixer module.
@tuesdaynightmachines9 жыл бұрын
No worries :) ask away! A VCA is voltage controlled. A regular attenuator has to be adjusted manually with a knob. A mixer is just a bunch of attenuators which mix all their signals in the end.
@NateBelascoAKASCIF9 жыл бұрын
wait so you can use a belkin headphone splitter as a multiple? there's no difference?
@devincory96955 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure as I haven't tried, but I think that since headphones are stereo and eurorack is mono, they aren't compatible.

Hi ! I am trying to get in Eurorack by buying de Moog Mother-32. What do you think about it ? Is it a good choice for a first step ? Should I buy other modules with it like it is mentioned in the video ? Thank you for all your great videos.
@tuesdaynightmachines9 жыл бұрын
+rednakS Kolleb Hi :) The Mother 32 will work just fine and it's obviously also a great sounding standalone synth. At first I'd just buy the Mother 32 and no Eurorack modules and just play with the Moog for a bit, patching it in crazy ways, etc. Then after a bit of time, think about what other functions you'd like to have on the Mother 32 (e.g. another LFO, an Effect, ...) and then start with those modules in a properly sized Eurorack case.

Hello! I just got my microbrute about a month ago, and i'm looking into something else I could start saving up for... i'm thinking maybe a Korg MS20 or a doepfer Dark Energy... But i've also thought about the mother32 as something cool! What are your thoughts? P.S. I also considered getting another microbrute, because apparently there is some potential in using two together! Or a minibrute! Thanks in advance man!
@tuesdaynightmachines9 жыл бұрын
The MS20 doesn't use 1V/Oct for pitch, so you'd need a converter from other CV gear. A second Brute is possible, but in my opinion also rather boring. Why not start a small Eurorack system? Although the Mother is definitely cool too.
@wotmate14409 жыл бұрын
+The Tuesday Night Machines hmmmm... Do all the parameters of the MS-20 need converting? Or does the Hz per Volt only apply to pitch CV of the oscillators/keyboard? Also, in terms of a case, would I need to purchase the full on hard travel case type thing? Or could I make do with just a 6U rack?

sorry to ask you for more advice, but if i make a eurorack effects unit, with just Clouds, and a filter... can i bring audio in from synths and back out to my mixer? or do i need a eurorack module just for bringing audio in and out?
@tuesdaynightmachines6 жыл бұрын
No problem at all! Ask away :) Yes, you can bring audio in and out straight from the modules. At least I would try that before getting dedicated input/output modules. Eurorack levels are very loud, so incoming audio might be very quiet and outgoing audio very loud. However, depending on your synths' output levels and your mixer's input attenuation it might just work fine.

why are the cases so expensive? Usually, electric components are extremely cheap. Does the power have to be 100% clean, or does it need to do something else, that requires expensive components? I don't want to buy one, i just want to get some basic knowledge about synthesisers.
@tuesdaynightmachines9 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the cases aren't really that expensive at all. I built two very simple cases myself and quickly reached 350€ for all materials on the last one, without adding cost for my labor. The power supplies should be clean/stable so that you don't get interferences and stuff, but still, they're not really overly "expensive". Modular synths are also just a niche market, so there isn't a huge volume of stuff being sold, which would probably decrease overall costs.
