Are you still happy with the Neutron?

Hi Louise. Yes I am. I love the kinda retro Sound it has. It‘s an integral part or my Eurorack setup. I really like to have complete Voices in it (Neutron, Plaits, Minibrute 2S) that I can trigger from my Sequencer. The neutron is imho the best value for Money right now for complete Eurorack voices.

Yeah. You can patch it that way. But you can also use the sequencer to sequence the neutron independently. But I most of the time don‘t, as the Brute has a great sound on it‘s own and doesn‘t need another analog osc. I sometimes patch it with the Plaits thou, to add some more digital sounds or dim physical modeling ones to it. Same with the neutron. An added plucked string sound added to a baseline or a bowed strings one to a lead sounds dope.

@@GentlemanRocker - cool. I am not a BIG fan of the envelopes on the 2S for short sounds. Very tiny sweet spot. So am looking at the Neutron to use its envelopes? Can you comment on the Neutron decay times? can you get them tight/snappy? I may get the Neutron for this, OR buy doepfer envelope module.

Yo George how are you mate! Yeah-I now replace all the e-rack screws with winkies thumb screws-so much easier and faster to move and mount modules, etc. You’re doing what I did with my Neutron last week- -I agree it’s a better use of the unit when not needing the audio jacks and USB. Works great and looks better!

hi! i got Neutron second hand and the sender didn't include the power supply cable that would allow me to connect the Neutron to eurorack. is that a cable i can get pretty much anywhere or does it have to be that specific cable?

I wonder if Behinger will come out with an expansion module that will provide the MIDI and I/O options that were in the old case. Especially now they just announced their Mantis case clone at $100 less than Tip Tops...

I don‘t think so. I also don‘t really use usb/midi in my Eurorack. Or I have a module that converts midi to cv/gate. I guess that‘s something they will add. A generic midi to cv/gate module

so when you move the Neutron to a eurorack, you would nee to manually control it with Gate/CV patches? And the MIDI-to-Gate/VC converter an a amp section stays in the desktop case?

Have you had any overheating issues? Also do you know how much mA your power supply is using?

Kind of an amateur question for ya, but does the midi in still work when it’s mounted like this?

Guessing you just lose the midi thru as it's round the back of the case

Yeah. But I don’t use midi at all with the neutron, so that‘s okay for my. But yeah. The midi thru is gone. As is the selection of the midi in channel.

Hi Abe. First of all thanks. No, I had no problems with the gate in. What doesn‘t work at yours? I always use it when I sequence the neutron. No Problem at all.

GentlemanRocker thank you for your response. I am using a Polyend Poly to convert midi out from my keystep to CV, and I am connecting the pitch out from the poly to the Osc1 in on the neutron, and the gate out from the poly to the E gate 1 in on the neutron, and I am taking the output from the neutron to my output module to my audio interface, but when I release the key from my Keystep the Neutron keeps sounding. When I saw your video I really liked how you were using the VCOs from the neutron, and I would like to do the same, but I don’t know what I am doing wrong, or if I got a faulty Neutron :(

So the Sound Never really stops? That may be a common problem. But not for a faulty Neutron, it‘s a setting. Try turning down the VCA bias. If that does not work get the manual and dial in the default patch. That should work. From there you can sculpt your sound than. But I guess it‘s VCA bias. If it‘s not completely down it keeps the VCA open a little.
