so refreshing to watch historical video without any background noise/music/atmosphere etc. Just simple narrative, which allows me to ingest this at my own pace - GREAT JOB UN!!

What surprised me most is the hard life of the Buddha. Yet the sculptures look well-fed.

was Mogao first or Petra first ? Sounded like Mogao first and refreshed, ie new caves and paintings added as years go by. BUT I can't find any independent study supporting this.

Watch Dunhuang daughter video on China's decades of effort to restore and preserve the Mogao caves treasures. Imagine spending decades in this remote desolute place in those craves, and remember those monks 1600 years ago dedicated their lives to build these grottoes.

Amida is a buddha, the main buddha for Pure Land Buddhists, not a god. If this film is done by nhk where pure land still has millions of followers today, you'd expect they'd get a writer, director and narrator who'd know better, especially for a unesco vid.

Wow, never knew tht existed. Its absolutely astonishing and amazing. Why cant we build homes like bak thn?? Now we chop down trees for the wood frames of our homes. I think it would be awesome to live in a cave.

It is a pity that the Mogao grottoes in Dunhuang were destroyed by the colonists.
@Sithlug
@Sithlug 5 жыл бұрын
They were not destroyed?? Have you been there? yes there has been vandalization and some trophy taking, some damage done by Russian prisoners ect. However they are mostly largely intact and original apart from a few repairs over the centuries. The biggest pity is all the best scriptures/scrolls were sold by the monk care taker. No denying the colonists did terrible things and did destroy a lot of other things, however the most destruction of cultural and religious art/buildings and sites ect was done by Mao in the cultural revolution hands down. Almost every temple ect i went to when last in china was a rebuilt replica after the cultural revolution destruction.
