MOHINI DEY'S BLUE NOTE NYC DEBUT ON 1.27.25....
GET READY TO HAVE YOUR MIND BLOWN!
MOHINI DEY, former child prodigy and bassist extraordinaire performs her original "MEAT EATER" at her Blue Note New York debut in Greenwich Village on Monday January 27, 2025.
*Note: Although the Blue Note Jazz Club New York billed this show simply under the name Mohini Dey, this trio is actually the MaMoGi band.
If you love energetic jazz fusion, bass guitar, and bass-centric music, then you will love the 28 year old Indian renowned bass guitarist, arranger, producer & vocalist MOHINI DEY! Dey and Gino Banks are one of the tighest bass/ drum combos I've seen!
What's amazing is that this is the first song of the set - and the playing and intensity only gets better from here. Continue to WATCH my upcoming videos from this amazing show!
Mohini has been described as the “Most Successful Musician UNDER30” By ForbesIndia. She has been working professionally in the music industry for the past 19 years. She is the only female bassist to rank within the 'Top 10 Bassists in the 21st century' on Music Radar.
Since Mohini moved to the U.S. two years ago, she is taking the fusion music world by storm!
She has also worked with music luminaries like Steve Vai, Zakir Hussain, Quincy Jones, Vinnie Colauita , Stanley Clarke, Jordan Rudess, Mike Stern, Dean Brown, A R Rahman, Sivamani, Marco Minneman, Gary Willis, Dave Weckl, Tony Macalpine, Stu Hamm, Plini, Louiz Banks, Guthrie Govan, Ranjit Barot, Chad Wackerman, Chad Smith, Simon Phillips, Prasanna, Gergo Borlai, Victor Wooten, Federico Malaman, Darwin, Niladri Kumar, Stu Hamm, Sivamani, Bumblefoot, et., and many more artists.
This is the 165th installment of my "Great Performances" series, where I upload my own personal LIVE footage from past concerts of great musical artists I've covered either through written articles and/or direct interviews.
Mohini Dey is:
Mohini Dey - Bass Guitar, Pedals
Mark Hartsuch - Saxophone
Gino Banks - Drums
Check out my upcoming article about this incredible musician and show at Blue Note New York with Mohini Dey in the Village View when it comes out soon. I've will add a link to the article HERE.

she is 27, married and started with 3 years old playing the bass, every day for hours and hours because her father told her to do do. Luckily, it came out to be good way for her. (I heard her interview where she explains her very disciplined way)

I disagree. Jaco Pastorius redefined the bass as a lead instrument; Ms. Dey excels to a phenomenal degree in virtuosity on the instrument.

Although I admire her skills as a fellow musician (with waaaaaaay less talent than her); I would like to note in all honesty that her playing here isn't that tight. She struggles keeping up with the tempo at most licks and grooves .... BUT nevertheless she is an amazing bassplayer and I cannot do what she does. My 2 cents 🙂

Definitely not perfect, but TBH so many of us would love to play as "imperfectly and off-timed" as Mohini Dey!

@@radjet The whole point being that the bass forms part of the RHTHYM section, therefore , playing out of time is a crime. Mohini Dey should play guitar if she just wants to shred (badly).

Growing pains. Young musicians are want to flex their muscles when the opportunities present themselves. Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and many more, all did the same; but maturity tames hubris.
