Hello Dear Professor; I am a student from Iran, and I must say that your teaching is very wonderful. You explain everything very easy and I am very grateful that you publish these tutorials for free so that students from all over the world can use them. I would love to meet you in person one day, and thank you very much for your wonderful efforts. Best regards; Sina

You convey perspective in an incremental and lucid manner, which is otherwise so obscure in texts! Specifically the explanation on Mohr's circle with parametric equation is excellent. Thank you!

I just want to commend you for the thorough content of your lectures. Not only do they include practical application but they break down the theory before doing examples it's great this content is gold.

@@TheBomPE thanks, I am greatly encouraged by that. Your channel is one of the few, if not the only one I've seen, that have dealt with the 3d stress and strain transformation. Do you also teach thermodynamics?? I have observed that your method of online teaching is practically close to the in person approach.

This is a very good quality lecture. It deserves much more views than the 3.3k it has got as of now. Please consider doing one lecture about Mohr's circle for strains and for 3D stress state.

Sir i am a little bit confused you said that the outer surface of a shaft in torsion is free surface but there is shear stress on that surface which is indeed maximum so there would be forces on the outer surface so how it could be free surface.
@TheBomPE
@TheBomPE 4 жыл бұрын
When there is a free surface it means no stresses, including shearing stresses, are applied directly to that surface. The material at the surface can still experience shearing stress, it just occurs on planes perpendicular to the surface.

Greeting sir, how we relate the value of principle stress in designing of member
@michaeltamajong4659
@michaeltamajong4659 3 жыл бұрын
It tells us the direction of crack. Usually, cracks occur perpendicular to the principal stress. One important thing I learned in mech of materials is that brittle materials (homogeneous and isotropic) will break at 45 deg when subjected to pure torsion. You can verify that using the stress transformation to get the principal angle in that case.
