Terrific stuff - steel in velvet! (and an interesting quote from BM too.)

I know that Jorge Bolet listened to this performance, and was at a party at his home when he put it on the record player. In this piece, these two artists are twins. I sense that Bolet had a bigger hand, and his octaves and chords were simply more incendiary. In the inflammable sparkling middle section, maybe Moiseiwitsch is on a level of his own. As the music approaches its stupendous climax, Bolet walks away with it. for I have never heard anybody produce a sound like what Bolet gets. I do not begrudge one great artist taking inspiration from another. This is a performance for the ages, as is Bolet's.

Simply perfect!

Not perfect. Multiple errors were heard in the beginning and the recapitulation of the "Pilgrim's Chorus." However, this has got to be one of, if not the most difficult, Liszt transcriptions ever written for piano solo. Very FEW pianists can get through this composition without blunders or skipped-over notes. This recording demonstrates one of the most beautiful renditions ever recorded!! The artistic sonorities are just sublime!

It's one of the best performances with Jorge Bolet

As Rubenstein said about Tschaikowski's 1st Concerto, "it's unplayable!" But Moiseiwitsch does it here....one piano masquerading as a whole orchestra!

Superb performance. Except for Bolet (both recordings), way above the modern bangers who have no idea how to draw orchestral sonorities from the instrument or treat melodic lines.

A very wonderful interpretation, despite the blunders in the bass toward the end with the recapitulation of "Pilgrim's chorus." He really does succeed with the resonance of the melodic lines.
@pianoman551000 Жыл бұрын
Modern "bangers" do not know the art of pedaling; therefore, they give a mediocre musical rendition, lacking the ability to give resonance to the composition.

That's actually the main passage- people that perform with the broken octaves are playing the ossia

The main text has octaves in tripets, the ossia has broken octaves in semiquavers. He simplifies it to quaver octaves.
