I feel like this list of moisturizing vs sealing oils contradicts everything low porosity naturals have been taught. For example, coconut oil is a moisturizing oil however for low porosity naturals, a lot of us don’t like it and it makes our hair very dry. Same goes for olive oil.

If you’re prone to dandruff, don’t use coconut oil. Coconut oil is prone to cause build up which can make the dandruff flare up more and cause big flakes. Take it from me from experience. Light oils are the way to go

For those with low porosity and sensitive skin scalp, get Mct oil, it's like the lighter version of coconut oil, it doesn't build up as much, doesn't solidify so the best of coconut oil withouth the fuss. It's also good for health(in salad as a dressing with ACV and honey) and for skin too. You can find it in Fitness shop or the health aisle in most supermarket.

This was really helpful, I'm familiar with moisturizing oils and sealants but it's good to have a reference of some of the good ones because there are so many oils out there. I honestly get the best results when I seal everything in with a little castor oil. I have fine strands so I can't use a lot because it's a heavy, thick oil but my hair is moisturized for days when I use it. I'll have to def pick up some of that mint almond oil, I always hear great things about it.

I'm already starting to look up diff. types of oils to see which functions as what...so, I got overly excited when I saw this thumbnail, but it did not quite help in that category. But thanks for the video.
@ms1src6 жыл бұрын
Right, the switch up was not in line with the initial intent of the video. Leads you to question credibility. It's one thing to share your favorite oils, why and how you use them and another to try and educate people on oils. The video started out wrong by saying the two types of oils are sealants and moisturizers. The two types are carrier and essential. After that, oils can be used for different reasons, sealing, moisturzing, growth, shine, frizz, etc.

@VFEdge5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use a moisturizing oil and then use a sealing oil on top. Me personally, I leave my hair as wet as possible (I use a bottle of water or a mix of water and aloe vera juice if my hair starts to dry out), apply whatever I'm using as a conditioner or leave-in. Then I use a silicone product as my sealer (don't hate me - I LOVE silicones and they have ALWAYS worked for me, natural and relaxed and I will ALWAYS use them). I have a mix of low porosity hair and my curl pattern is a mix of zigzags and "s". Hope that helps. Also, I would advise to be light-handed with the oils.
@semoneg28262 жыл бұрын

@KimberlyCherrell7 жыл бұрын
Kimberly Anderson Hey Boo!!! Argan Oil is in the 'BOTH' category. It's is both Moisturizing and a sealant but that will change based on the Porosity of your hair. If you have High Porosity hair you will love using Argan Oil as a source of moisture. Low Porosity hair (like myself) would consider it better for a sealant. I lived for Argan Oil when my hair was heat damaged and Colored. So you're right 😊... I'll talk about Porosity next and how to match it with the best oils
