Basically what happened (if anyone wants the techical side) was that mojang normalized the velocity. Usually it checks the keypresses and it adds the current player speed to the velocity, and if you press two keys at once, you go slightly faster because the hypotenuse of a line with vertical component 1 and horizontal component 1 is 1.414, which is 1.4 times faster. Basically what mojang did to fix the bug was NORMALIZE the speed to be only 1 in both directions. Sorry if this is word salad

3:13 idk about that. Everyone's anger was justified, but I feel like it wasn't really about whether or not the new system was actually GOOD. People were just mad that the system they'd spend dozens of hours getting good at was suddenly being up-ended and replaced. 1.9+ pvp itself is (in my opinion) MUCH better than 1.8, but that didn't matter. No one was going to just learn a whole new combat system after all this time.

I like how people like to fear monger and be like, "Mojang removed this bug from the game, so there for Mojang nearly killed their game." When in reality, its a bug that only effects a small portion of the community, not the entire community. For decades now, the Minecraft Community has had this victim mentality where every time a bug that is overpowered gets fixed or removed, people cry and complain about it. Like there precious toy was taken away. For example, if Mojang one day removed the bug where Java players can build on the Nether Roof, I predict that players are going to complain and moan about it, because their precious overpowered bug was taken away from them. Like I said before it's a victim mentality. No wonder why Notch left all those years ago.

honestly for the crouch thing I would call it a bug because it is a literal 40% speed boost (issue with normalizing movement when doing certain things like crouching) but for the small improvement for normal movement really added a lot of depth to min maxing and pushing minecraft to limit (in parkour bridging pvp etc)
