Early in my life, I remember being taught (verbatim): “what you achieve is proportional to what you attempt.” THANK YOU for attempting this. And THANK YOU for taking us along on the ride. Inspirational to us !

Congratulations on the registration and getting the wings and empennage and fairings and wiring all taken care of. I hope the DAR is thorough, not because I want you to have problems, but because I want any problems to be found on the ground rather than in the air! Good luck and can’t wait to see it FLY!!!!

Nice job there guy... Back in teh 60s, my pop and his buddy built numerous planes. In the garage..! We didn't need any FAA back then, LOL... I remember dragging a Piper Cub style plane with no wings out of the garage, getting to the airport a few miles away, bolting the wings on and my Dad flipping the prop and testing the plane... NO inspections, NO registration, and no insurance, back in the day... We grew up with two taildraggers in the back yard and a nice 1300 foot grass strip. Big barn to store the planes with the cows. At 12 years old, one day. Dad was in Europe on a trip. This was around 1967, We had a Piper Cub and Aeronca taildragger. I was used to starting the prop with Dad. So... he wasn't there. I thought I know how to fly this. So I primed it up, did a flight check around the plane and pulled the prop. Started first time. I took off and flew around our area, Delaware River around New Hope, PA. Flew under the Milford Bridge! Which my Dad did once in a while. Got home, tucked the plane back in the grass marks from the tires. Tried to hide any evidence. A week later, my dad comes back. Grass has grown around the wheels, and I thought, whew, all good. Then Dad says, come here boy! Want to go flying today? Sure Dad, Then he pulls the fuel stick out, and there was a half tank of gas. He looks at me and says, Did you start the plane.. Uhhh NO.. Bullshit.. the tanks were full. What did you do? Then the slapping of my head in every direction. He was more scared I would kill myself. But after a beating, he sat me down and said, you will learn to fly. A year later, I was taking lessons with Ed Mahler, and a professional stunt pilot in New Jersey at Sky Manor. He helped design the BD5 jet and many Pitts Specials. Ed and I became great buddies. My Dad told him, treat him like he was your son, as he slapped me across the head. And said, Peter is known to steal a plane if you aren't watching. So, as my lesson went the next months, Ed would be sitting in front of me, whether in a Great Lakes Trainer or Piper Cub. Giving amazing lessons in aircraft handling characteristics. And why shit happens. Once, he turned the engine off on the Piper Cub and said, "Find someplace safe to put it down, and take off again." That was a turning point of fear. Though at, 3500 feet, I looked around quickly, found a nice big field of a Sod Farm. Perfect. Looked like our strip. I swung around and landed there. Ed was pretty impressed. He said he knew he could make it there but left it to me to find. We got back to Sky Manor and had a soda. I miss flying with my Dad and Ed. Ed was killed at an airshow in 1976 I think... He broke a strut wire on his Pitts Special he built. He said it was ok and went back up to do some video shots with local newspaper following in another plane. When performing a loop maneuver, the tail broke free and he went down. I cried for days at the ridiculousness of that incident. He made me check every cotter pin, and movable part, and always sais, take no chances. Don't fly if not perfect. It's not the fall, it is the impact... Fly safe. Check everything in your Experimental. I wasn't following your build, though I saw many of your videos and enjoy them. Nice job on your airplane. I am now looking to buy a twin, maybe a used D62. A bit expensive, but a total wow factor. I have a couple of business partners now, retired. Both were American Airlines captains with over 35 years each in both fighter jets, private jets, and the BIG BUS, otherwise known at a 777. The view from that cockpit at 45k is amazing. Enjoy MOJO!! Love this little project of yours. Best of luck.

I have never seen a plane that had to have bolts or pins banged in like that. Smacking bolts is never a good idea. Keep checking these points for some time to come. Good luck and congratulations.

I can’t believe the tenacity of this man. I’m an engineer and been a program mgr. on multi $$$$ programs. ITS NO F-king fun especially without vulgar language, fist fights among degrees technicians, engineers and pipe fitters! When it all over we all have a beer and say never again and go home and tell our sons and daughters to marry rich. When will he admit how many “walk away” days he had and how many days did he go home and cry in the basement. I found that most most theraputic.

Mojo Mike- firstly I have to admit how smart it has proven to be to use this fantastic builder assist program. A lot of guys have probably fronded on the cost and maybe the theory a guy should build it 100% himself but after seeing the complexity and how many years it takes to complete ( come on, some builders are taking 5-10 years just to build one airplane), I think your decision is totally sound. Next- is safety. I just wouldn't trust myself to check, check, and recheck every detail before flying. I'm sure it's a video all by itself how exhaustive these checks will be. Lastly, just step back and see this project through our (your viewers) eyes. I just can't believe this is a possible 4 seater aircraft. The lines are just perfect. It's really a masterpiece. I wish you calm skies ahead my friend!

The wacking on wing attachment pins would make me nervous. Installing temporary flight control hinge pins without clearly marking them and relying on memory to replace them with the spec pins would make me nervous as well. Give this thing a 200% good look over by different people before you take it up

It would only be fair of you to explain that the certificate of registration and airworthiness certificate are two different documents (BOTH required) what they represent, and how they relate to an aircraft. In the video, you say that the aircraft still has to be inspected for airworthiness, so, it is safe to assume that the Airworthiness Certificate has not yet been issued.

@MojoGrip I’m very interested in doing this myself. I do have a question though. Will you be classed as the builder of the aircraft & be able to do your annual inspections & maintenance etc. I’m currently in the army & leaving soon. I’m very interested in buying a TSI & will do if I’m going to be classed as the builder after the process that you have followed as I’m gonna have the same issues that you have in that my wife & kids won’t be to happy if I buy a sling & have to spend all my time building or can you do a certain amount of the work exactly as you have & be able to do my inspections etc as this will save me loads of cash as aviation is not a cheap thing to get into. I’m a huge fan & trying to decide VANS or Sling. If Sling offer this program & be classed as the builder I think I will probably choose Sling. Thx for any info in advance. 😊 good luck with your aviation journey. I can’t wait to see this wonderful aircraft in flight. I may steal your aircraft colour if that’s ok 🙈.

@schuttrostig5729

more intrestingly there are flush rivets and non flush ones, really intrested in the detail and reasoning for that.
@slavedriver394
@slavedriver394 4 жыл бұрын
@@schuttrostig5729 Flush rivets in the areas that require laminar flow - like the leading edges of the wing - its turbulent flow aft of that anyway so flush rivets aren't going to give you much performance advantage for a lot more work. Van's Aircraft use solid rivets instead of pulled rivets and require a lot more work to install (and 2 people)
