You kept this discussion extremely professional despite the obviously STRONG emotions. Great job keeping it positive. You’re almost there ! ( I literally found myself becoming angry as it reminded me of previous experience dealing with a govt entity. In private sector I literally had people working with me that had nearly identical jobs to the govt person and I remember thinking “I would literally fire this person right now due to incompetence” had that person worked for me. So I have empathy. Keep moving forward. You’re at the goal line.)

Beautifully and logically presented. Best of luck, don’t get discouraged. Your on your way up and I’m on my way out. I’m an 80 year old pilot who has flown safely for 47 years . At 80 the only insurance I can get is for a 172 or a 180. I’ve got my 30 year old Aerostar to sell.

Hang in there! I am an A&P and former IA (31 years). Bought an Avid Model C in March. Picked it up June 28. Long story, registered the plane while completing the airframe repairs, and I submitted the paperwork July 18, 2020. September 20th got my new registration in mail. Spent many days calling to see what the registration processing date was. The FAA can be and will painful to work with, and I wish the local FSDO’s had more ability as our FSDO is two blocks from my hanger. Safe flying, the small experimental aviation world applauds your show!

Mike, I have totally enjoyed following along with this journey. The frustrations, the small successes and now more frustration. It is the reality of building an experimental and to see the process first hand is definitely a benefit for those thinking about doing the same. Can you do some ground tests? You may do high speed taxi, running it on the runway to almost takeoff speed, checking rudder control, nose wheele steering, breaks, airodynamics behavior etc. Start slow and gradually speed up each taxi, to find any problems, if exist. Also check your avionics (mostly airspeed indicator)... Check altimeter shows field elevation. I am sure you could start fly test it soon. Good luck!

The blocks put forward are at times truly overwhelming.

Mike I feel your pain. I’ve been away from my family for nine months because of the pandemic. I work in New Zealand and live in Australia but I’m fortunate to be able to fly home at Christmas to visit them. I’ve worked in government and private industry and understand that bureaucracy costs time delays and is frustrating. Regulatory bodies talk about reducing redtape constantly and keeping there industries informed but in reality their own staff are under trained and under staffed. COVID has been the excess for a lot of businesses which were under performing even before 2020. Keep your chin up mate. You will be flying home soon in an amazing aircraft very soon ✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️

In a small village, on the border of The Netherlands and Germany, there is or was a monastry. The place is called Echternach. Whenever the monks went in procession they had this special way of walking. Two steps forward and one step back, reducing speed of walking. Whenever we walk in ‘Red Tape situations we will call it an Echternach procession. Every Dutch knows what you’re talking about. The process you’re getting through is just that, when you think you are moving forward you’re taking a step back. Slowing down like an Echternach procession.

@1planenut624 жыл бұрын
I learned that when the FAA is involved in something like this, they do their job up to the point of something wrong. Instead of completing the inspection, and giving a complete list of things that need corrected, they just stop and leave. When the initial problem is corrected, they come back out, and instead of picking up where they left off, they start over. Then, when they find something else, they stop and do the same dance. Very inefficient!

Amendments take time. Before you submit documents to FAA it is your responsibility as the builder to have an awareness, attitude, and attention to the details. When you didn’t see your insurance and or title documents before you submitted them. You made the mistake. That should be your personal take on this. If you have to submit documents to anyone and you do so blindly. Expect delays as you can imagine. Covid 19 has all government agencies working from home. This I think is the reality throughout the USA. The biggest thing about Experimental buildings is the logs and paperwork. If you have someone else doing that for you and you the builder owner do not confirm as also the pilot in command..Then such errors will get by you as the Title company is not flying planes. You are and you dictate to them what the legal parameters are for Experimental Aircraft as this information is clearly written in the FAA laws on Experimental aircraft. This should not happen if you followed the FAA documented laws as your guide. Congratulations now you have “2020 “ hindsight!
