I appreciate how you and Melt cosmetics handled this! I hope it’s an ingredient issue and not necessarily mold. I have both gemini palettes and thankfully nothing weird as of now. I love their customer service! During their sale a few weeks ago, I forgot to add the free mini lipsticks into my cart so I contacted them and they gave me the option to get the mini lipsticks or 20% off my next order!

I stopped buying melt years ago. They are too inconsistent for their prices and now seeing this I am glad I stopped buying from them. Well said well done. They handled it well but still too many inconsistencies for me to spend that kind of coin on them.

I actually have had mold grow in 3 melt palettes. 2 Gemini Paquette and the Smoke Sessions palette. I have had problems with their eyeshadow formula since they switched to palettes. The Rust Stack is still amazing and one of my favorites. But I am no longer purchasing eye shadows from them. Their customer service really is the best, though.

Last year I was one of the people posting my palettes on Reddit. My response from Melt was NO WHERE near as kind as yours. I hate to say it, but they likely were kinder because you do reviews. They blamed me for the mold, and didn't even attempt to fix it. I put in for a chargeback on my credit card because they refused to refund me. They disputed the charge back, which caused me to have to spend weeks emailing my CC company images and emails. My CC refunded me. And I did a reddit post about it. I will never support them again. The way they treated me was UNBELIEVABLE. But I'm glad you got closure with yours.

In the back of my head, sometimes I think most brands are more likely to give good customer service to people who do reviews. But since that was last year, I hope that they improved since then and give good customer service to everyone. I totally understand why you wouldn’t want to buy from them again. I’m wary about buying from them now because I worry that I may get mold in a palette 4 months after my purchase. For a palette that expensive, I expect it to not have any mold issues at least not so early on. I buy from Sephora because I don’t want to pay shipping and Sephora won’t replace anything after their 1 month returns period end. I’m glad Karen got her issue resolved at least. The only palette I’ve had mold in was the makeup Revolution Emily Noel palette and I got a replacement from ULTA.

It's disgusting that their customer service isn't the same across the board. They give you a hard time and blame you when you're one of many that have had this exact issue and in more than one of their palettes too. It's unacceptable. They shouldn't treat one person better because they do reviews than the next person who doesn't. They should treat everyone equally. I will NEVER support or buy from them based on that alone. Maybe next time they're treat everyone the same.

Thank you for bringing this to people's attention and telling us batch number and showing close-up shots etc. Very glad this was not a sensationalist video and very professional responses from both you and the brand. Hopefully they can find a solution to this problem by examining your palette - so many brands would say to have it thrown in the trash. If any type of brand or any type of product shows signs of being a potential health or safety risk: get your refund/replacement and then report it to your local agency/authority if the brand will not investigate.

So sorry this happened to you I have the same batch code and ordered w. Melt on launch day. My palette looks perfect. Hopefully it stays that way! They handled the situation perfectly. Melt hasn't really had any issues since the original Gemini launch. I believe they replaced palettes for customers that were affected and reformulated the palette. I have an OG Gemini palette from the reformulation restock and never had an issue with it.

Not again!! I swear every time I think it's finally safe to buy from Melt something comes up about mold or shadows puffing up out of their pans! At the price they come to in Canada that is just not ok. Heck, even if they were inexpensive that wouldn't be ok. I'm glad they helped you out and hopefully this one doesn't become a lab experiment!

This happened a few years ago with a Melt palette. I always wondered if it was mold or salt or ingredients separating, etc. I got super frustrated with a few channels who clickbaited “Mold in Melt!” But did absolutely no follow up or identification. I’m a chemist by trade and can say the entire situation made me so frustrated.

I would honestly go buy a mold kit from Home Depot or Amazon and test it yourself before you send it back. If it’s truly mold that’s a huge health issue for people buying the brand. It’s not likely the brand will tell us what it actually is 🤷🏻‍♀️.. just my opinion on the matter. And once you send it back basically all the evidence is gone at that point and they can just say it’s whatever they want to say it is.

I had the same issue with my Matheo shade (seems like this is only happening with the metallic shades) and customer service told me it's not mold but the wax used to bind the pigments. They sent me a replacement anyways. Idk if I believe it though, it's not like they tested it 🤷‍♀️

I have the same batch code! I just checked all my palettes that I hauled from them when GII was released and mine seem fine, but now I will be keeping an extra eye out. I kept the plastic separator for all my palettes, I wonder if that might help keep them from molding? The shimmer shades all have a make-up smell, which I don't mind, but it might make them harder to tell if they go off or they might go off sooner than expected with their consistency.

This was my first year using melt, I've wanted to try them since I missed the muerte palette. The 2 Gemini palettes were some of my first purchases from them. When I saw ur video, I checked mine right away. Nothing for now, but will definitely keep an eye on them in the future. Their customer service is amazing though.

After watching this video, I checked my Gemini 1 and 2 palettes. I couldn’t believe that my Gemini 2 palette was not only doing the same thing with the color Schmood, but it also had the same batch code as yours! I contacted Melt and they responded to me within 24 hours offering to mail me a replacement. Great, fast response.

I did Email the brand and they say they are sending me a replacement but they also said it wasn't mold!?! Well then what is it? So disappointing to see that it is happening to other people.. I had mold spores in the green shade of mine. I was devestated. Emailed melt and they sent me a new palette straight away which was perfect and no mold. But if I’m doubt just spritz your palette with isopropyl alcohol xx

I found this video because my melt Gemini 2 also has mold but in the green shimmer shade 🙄 guess CHECK YOUR MARIPOSAS PALETTES because there’s mold too in two shades! I think that for such an expensive brand this is not really acceptable.. and I’ve had the palettes for like 4 moths so that’s super weird

I’ve contacted them and they’re saying it’s binding elements and it’s safe but I was offered a replacement (I bought it on beautybay so I appreciate them sending me a new one even though I didn’t buy it from their website). Unfortunately I work in a lab and I know what mold looks like so I am not so sure that it’s binding elements… Anyway tank you for bringing this up!

Awe shit, I have that same batch code and I have no mold or weirdness going on, but I guess I'l keep my eye on it. I've never had issues with my Melt palettes, but damn, I remember that drama before. There are many people who don't wanna try Melt because of that. I've had nothing but great experiences with their customer service though and it seems like they've handled things well so far. Hopefully this isn't too widespread of an issue.

Hmmmm. I have not had any issues with any of my melt eyeshadows. Honestly to me that looks more like bacterial colonies or yeast not fungal like mold. Either way that’s not good. Maybe it’s contamination from fingers or brushes because they’re not using stabilizers. Bacteria and yeast are part of our normal flora on our skin. I have gotten a terrible eye infection that I needed to be hospitalized for because i wad t being careful to clean my brushes in between use. I think my cat got into them. She likes to play with toys that have tails and thinks all my brushes are toys. Lol. Silly kitty. I If I ever do see anything like this I’m curious enough that I will take it to work with me and put a sample of the affected area under the microscope with a lil KOH and see if I can identify any mold hyphae. Maybe I am just lucky? I’d be super interested to hear a follow up to see what grows from yours and if it’s possibly related to not having good preservatives and stabilizers. Maybe that is what caused my problem too and not my kitty. Although I didn’t have any visible growth in any of my palettes.

I’ve actually become so paranoid since I got out of the hospital I keep all my things in plastic craft boxes that latch closed and spritz my shadows down with alcohol after I’m done using them. That was sure an ordeal I’d like never to repeat.

I have a makeup room. Not pets allowed and if they ever do come in they aren’t getting into my palettes! I wish I could send you the palette to look at, that would have been so cool… also thanks you for all your insight I just used the world mold but I’m definitely not a scientist 🤣

That’s definitely the way to do it if you have space. Unfortunately I live in a very crowded urban area and I don’t have a way to have a separate room. I’m always jealous of people that have a beauty room! Also I know I’m a huge science nerd and I don’t expect anyone else to know the difference. I spent a really looooooong time in school to know myself. I am used to all the non scientist peoples eyes to glaze over and stop listening when I talk about that sort of thing. I’m actually impressed you paid attention. My husband sure doesn’t. Lol. Hope you get a final answer. I really am super curious

I actually had to email Melt too about an order I placed on May 20 th (same day as Odens Eye launch) that I still have not received. It just shipped yesterday finally and it’s crazy that I received my order from an indie brand in Sweden before this one. I don’t know what’s going on over there at Melt???

I am so bummed out right now. I just checked my melt Gemini II palette over the weekend and there was MOLD in the Matheo shade. I am so disappointed and bummed out. I looked online and it’s no longer for sale, maybe it was a mold problem. I’m still going to contact Melt to see if they can do anything. I’m so sad. 😕

I depotted my original gemini palette and threw away the shimmer shades because they were flaking to bits and getting in the beautiful mattes. I have never had the mold issue, but a pallete that needs depotting to be usable is not good. Their eyeshadows are so beautiful but I don't trust the formula, esp. not at that pricepoint.

I checked the vida and I don’t have mold. I will check my amor and mariposas 🦋 later. Sometimes I have shadows that look like that but it’s fallout from my setting or pressed powder after I really look at it. The only moldy shadow I had was one in the Emily Noel palette. I’ve had more instances of mold in my cream products like foundation and concealer. I threw out lip glosses and lipsticks in the past because they smelled bad. I’ve gotten allergic reactions from expired lip products. We got to be careful. I’m glad you didn’t accidentally use the moldy shadow on your eyes and that they helped you out. I hope they give good customer service to everyone as fairly as possible. I know the customer isn’t always right but mold is definitely something that has to be handled. I’m still open to buying from them but I hope this doesn’t keep happening because its not healthy if mold gets in contact with the eyes. Thanks for your transparency. 💕 I’m still manifesting muerte to come back. 😂😂 I’m glad I was able to get the ND gold palette after it got discontinued.

LMAO 😂 I haven't had any issues other than my Smoke Sessions palette always being shattered 😢 Melt was super cool resent me a brand new one and a gave me a small gift card. Super customer service. I have Muerte I will cry if it gets mold. I hope they bring it back for a holiday re-release one more time. GIRL for the amount of money 💰 we spent on ND that sapsucker better never go moldy. Sometimes I think the palettes we love are more likely to get mold because of makeup demons bringing bad luck , while the unwanted palettes we have are going to be pristine until we’re 90 years old. 😂 That’ nice that you kept your grandma’s eyeshadow palette from the 80s! It’s sentimental and also vintage makeup. Which colors were in the duo? I think frosty shades were popular back then.

Yeah, my first ever and probably last melt purchase was the Gemini bundle. My husband got it for me in May as a gift after I had my baby - used melt 2 one time and checked it the other day- my Matheo shade is moldy. Interestingly I emailed and customer service was very kind. They sent the replacement already and told me that it's not mold, but actually some kind of wax in the shade separating? Not sure if I believe it, really looks like mold to me. Hopefully this new palette is okay...

Love melt. They handle shit so properly. But is that a shimmer shade? Looks like it (I dnt have that 1) but maybe it's from spraying the brush and dipping in...maybe a dirty brush, or contaminated spray. Something along those lines maybe.

Judging by colour, if it is a mold, it is probably one of the several species that live on all human beings and are dispersed wherever humans are present. If a formulation is prone to becoming a growth medium for molds then it is difficult to prevent. Very regular sanitisation with isopropyl alcohol might keep it at bay but it would not be a guarantee and consumers should not need to do that. I love Melt's products and have not had any mold or puffing issues but it is concerning and a bit confusing tbh. Hopefully they figure this out, it must be very frustrating for the brand owners too.

Coming back to add to my comment… I received a couple days ago another whole new palette kindly from Melt. Same batch code 31222A as the first one. I have yet to even touch it. Well, I looked at it tonight and « Shmood » is getting mouldy !!! 😩

I have never had any palette mold or turn, how crappy for you! I bought from Melt once and so far, so good. But at the price point I don't think they are worth it. Great packaging and color stories but not worth the price!

I don't think that's mold, it just looks like a reaction with an ingredient in the shadow. Powder products don't usually grow bacteria in them.
