BEHIND THE LYRICS
This song is about the curse of a perpetual creative voice in someone’s head. There is no way to escape the voice, so the choice is to either embrace it, or attempt to stifle it. Both paths can be maddening. The lines“red on black” and “Chinese finger trap” are referring to the unforeseen consequences of artistic commercialization.
