isn't 375nm is on the 'blue-end' of the spectrum i.e. UV?

Yes, 375 nm is in the UV, just off of the blue or violet end of the visible spectrum. Because anthracene absorbs at these energies and higher, it does **not** absorb visible light. So anthracene is a colorless compound (at least in the gas phase -- the PIB model only considers individual molecules far from any others).
