Yea, there's an interesting story in here about the creation of a channel. Some of the people from back then were really talented, but after leaving the company haven't gotten much traction. It's a real time and place sort of thing. I remember Claire's early videos that were great, but we're divorced from Claire as a personality. Hard to even conceive of that now. A couple of great viral videos and Brad getting it all started has become a Halo effect for great on-camera personalities that may not have shown as brightly otherwise. It's really fascinating

I think it has to do with a feeling of authenticity and personality. Cooking channels are a dime a dozen. The ones that stand out have interesting, likable personalities presenting content in a visually appealing, relatively unique manner, which makes a channel more approachable and gives it individuality. One of the reasons companies like buzzfeed were able to establish such huge content creating channels is because they have people appearing in their videos that are recognizable and also know how to use camera equipment and edit/script videos really well. I'm guessing bon appetit hired people who know what they are doing in terms of media representation and that's why their videos have become more popular.
@laurenbi6 жыл бұрын
Yes! The direction of the videos changed a lot and that made a huge impact. I didn’t mention so in my original comment but I agree, I noticed too. It’s fascinating how “packaging” something differently changes people’s perceptions
