Whiskey before breakfast... I wanted to play well for years but all my music hero's were party animals. And so was I. Took to long to realize that I needed my motor skills to play. I'm glad people like Molly have a better upbringing than I. Family dedicated to God and children makes all the difference.😇

I can't flatpick to save my butt -- I'm a pretty good fingerstylist but no way to this stuff. One interesting observation was made to me by a great flatpicker at a bluegrass festival I went to: flatpicking is somewhat similar to blacksmithing. You know how a really good blacksmith typically keeps the hammer banging just on the raw anvil when he doesn't need a blow on the work? That's why the sound coming out of a smithy is always bang bang bang bang and it doesn't pause except to fully stop. That's the way great flatpickers and mandolinists work -- they often just keep the pick moving whether they actually "use" each stroke to hit a new note. Its very fascinating to me to see how this is done -- not that I can even come close. At any rate I sure love Molly Tuttle and all the good vibes she brings.

You watch her right hand and think she's strumming and it doesn't look that hard, then you realise she's picking individual strings faster than your eye can see and it blurs into looking like strumming.

Glad I'm not a flatlpicker, or I'd just quit. This is what happens when you start playing very young - don't know in her case but when you have maximum brain plasticity and you get the fundamentals down, then you have the makings of a great guitarist. All the greats started very young.

i don't think this melody was intended to be a race, and music is not a sport. somewhere in the seventies, starting perhaps with lip-synching and devolving into today's auto tune, it seems like delusion-bound humankind is determined to blur the boundaries.
@isaacbeen2087Ай бұрын
rambling rubbish…do you just have zero tolerance for fast music? every great composer would laugh at such a remark…plenty of music is a fit to go at great speed, and this isn’t even that fast

@@briancarroll3541 what a bore to read the same crap whining about people playing too fast in every video of a great bluegrass musician if the music is comprehensible the tempo is fine, the melodic content is perfectly audible, you need to get a grip and stop projecting your insecurities

@@briancarroll3541 try listening to bebop, try listening to the Hammerklavier sonata, try listening to Indian classical music do you think anyone has ever thought about these things beings “too fast?” of course not, it’s a ridiculous thing to bring up
@briancarroll3541Ай бұрын
@@isaacbeen2087 unsurprisingly, given the point made in my comment preceding this one, what is truly ridiculous is the comparison itself. as is particularly the case with the Beethoven, there is pacing throughout this piece, not just a mad-dash to the coda/outro. then, with regards to Indian classical, the idea that an entire genre would be limited to prestissimo?! it seems to me that you are only just discovering musical learning, and that with a demonstrably limited aptitude. consider that others, including Ms. Tuttle, have perhaps learned from prior inexperience and in the decades hence, have moved beyond a prior limitation. I will hope this for you and strongly suggest you make that your goal and focus rather than wasting time trolling four year-old comments made by your betters on SM.

Now try that without a capo; can't do it? Thought so. Rip that capo off and learn the fingerboard. Snore.
