With the house hunting maybe try to find a "next 5 years house" rather than the forever home. Maybe if you're looking for something smaller or something you can do up and sell (something you can do without kids easier). Then you can move out, stop paying rent, save up for the dream house while living in something that's fine for now? Otherwise you'll be paying rent for so long. I'm also looking, goodluck with your search!!
