love this show, thanks so much for uploading! Funny that at this point in his career, Mario had no idea what a gizzard was. It is a body part unto itself, where food is broken down with swallowed stones, or at many farms, bits of oyster shell.
@natashaonis2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the correct word for what he was cooking is giblets.
@VladamireD2 жыл бұрын
@@natashaonis you're correct, giblets is what he's describing (which often include the gizzard and also the neck). Most Americans would be familiar with turkey giblets, which are often included packaged with the whole bird and used to make gravy during Thanksgiving.

As other know-it-alls have pointed out the gizzard mistake, I would comment on the fact that the catfish dish is not a 'dolce-forte' like the rest of Italy, but is called 'in saor' in Venice. Interestingly, he used white wine vinegar; when I've had this in Venice, it's always red wine vinegar. Also, no Venitian would serve 'in saor' except at room temperature!!!!

i dont see how he was sued for "millions" because here in Minnesota & Wisconsin - Restaurants either take your tips & give a certain dollar amount per hour ,, or they give you $2/hr & allow you to keep your tips.................. But the real question is - SINCE WHEN DID WAITERS EARN "MILLIONS" OF $ ?????????????????

The insufferable know it all in me would like to point out that Mario was describing giblets not gizzards. Gizzards are a specific digestive organ in birds that are filled with grit, whereas giblets are the heart, liver, neck and gizzard that are often stuffed in whole birds for packaging. Also Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona not Venice. Othello and Merchant of Venice are unsurprisingly Venetian, but Romeo and Juliet is decidedly Veronese.

That's what I was wondering too. Giblets are the generic name for all organs, while gizzards refers to a specific organ in the bird. I suspect it might just be an American English thing, but I'm not too sure.

He just mispoke. I am a former comms exec and have done tv, stage and press and the like. It is annoying how often a word slips by us when we know exactly what we want to say. It makes one appreciate the masters who do it flawlessly. I could obsess for weeks over a minor slip of the tongue.

@oneitalia23126 жыл бұрын
Olive Garden? YUK! They barely season their food....always the flavor is barely there. I've been there 3 times, each time giving it another chance. Whatever I order at Olive Garden, with my first bite, it's like my tongue is clamoring for the taste.....the flavor.....where's the flavor??? They just don't season their food enough. Perhaps it's because it's a franchise and they have to please the masses, which means including those people who cannot have too much salt, or you much of this or too much of that, so they eliminate key ingredients which make for a great meal or essentially great food. When my friends want to meet at Olive Garden, I cringe! I'm a cook and I'm Italian so I don't want to look like a snob so I will go. The salad is always wonderful, I love their house dressing and the bread sticks are always warm and inviting. The house wine is bottled specifically for Olive Garden, it's called Principato. If you like a good hearty red wine you should try it. The bottle itself and the label are very pretty. So, in my opinion, if you're hungry for Italian food, find that small, out of the way building with barely a sign, that the little Italian family from Tuscany has been operating for years and go for some delicious authentic, can't be beat, home cooked Italian food.....and leave room for their Tiramisu and cappuccino before you leave! Ciao♡
