I never really felt close with my mom, neither did she play guitar, but somehow, this managed to make me emotional. Drew’s music is just THAT incredible. It makes me feel like I have someone like that in my life.

I found this song going through a Drew Gasparini hole on youtube. I sent it to my mom right away, and we both were in love. I had just moved to college to pursue music, and growing up I would sit with my mom and go over my piano books daily. This song hits different... and now I cry every time I hear it. Thanks Drew for writing such an amazingly connected song.

Neat, I also have a condition called mind cinematography. Based on what I read or listen to, I can create movies in my head. I can see how he grew up too. But, I cracked up when he said where said, "Mom was a carpool queen." I see the mom just chillin and trying not to be pissed XD ...For some reason I smell grass....

What does it smell like when he does the voice for Beetlejuice? Does it change or stay the original because it's still his voice?

Drew's music has such an incredible ability to stop me in my tracks. Whatever I'm doing, whoever is singing it I pause and give it my full attention because it's just that good, regardless of the song. There is such incredible heart poured into every lyric and melody that it feels rude to give it anything but my full attention. I feel late to the party learning about all the incredible songs he's written but there's an added bonus that I am constantly discovering new things to listen to. The entire 'We aren't kids any more' album just has me lying on the floor staring at the ceiling. I'm simultaneously paralyzed and yet revitalized. I can't fucking wait to see what he does next. Thank you for all you do Drew. PS. I love your podcast, its the highlight of my week

Just wanted to say, I stumbled across this video and this is one of my new all time favorite songs. Never fails to put a tear in my eye. I might not be a musician, but the sentiment translates so well. Thanks for the great song, Drew.

Mom came home with lots to say She′s pissed because she found a gray hair You'd never guess that she′s aged a day But sometimes life just doesn't play fair. My mom and dad loved PDA He shared the joy true love could bring her They made a home north of the bay My mom showed me how to be a singer Music was like breathing 'Cause it looked so easy She always had a song worth singing Mom taught music every day And raised us all by the western seaboard When I told mom that I wanna play She grabbed her guitar, taught me a D chord Her calloused fingers made it look so easy Thanks for being patient with me Oooo The only music I knew Was from days of each amazing childhood afternoon And oooo Just take a look at where we are It′s all because my mom could play guitar After school she was the carpool queen Four loud kids, she′d never be bored I was a shithead, angsty teen Fixated on a life led by a D chord Putting words to music, it wasn't always easy But mom was always there believing Ooooo The only music I knew Was from days of each amazing, childhood afternoon And oooo The music led me so far And it′s all because my mom could play guitar One thing I learned just by being around Mother's job is never finished, even when we′re grown And there's nothing like the wound she gets from hearing the words, "I need to do this on my own" Mom′s worst fear: the empty nest A house full gone must hit the hardest Mom and dad can only do their best The plight of raising four young artists Mom taught me to be brave 'Cause what you fear is what you lean toward Years of sacrifice and saving I never thanked her for that D chord

I stumbled across this while looking up videos of Alex Brightman singing, but I just had to leave a comment to let you know how incredibly moving this song is. Although I don't plan to be a mother myself, I find the lyrics to be such a beautiful tribute to loving parents who've raised us to follow our dreams. Thank you so much for sharing this touching music ❤

Hi Becca. Thank you so much for your input. I'm Drew. The guy that wrote this song about my mom which you think "sucks". Can't please everyone! But I really appreciate you leaving unkind comments right where I can see them. Alex is my best friend and he really doesn't like unkindness either, so I'm sad to see that a fan of either of ours is going out of their way to say something cruel when that is not what Brighty nor I are all about. Not at all. But you do you. Live your life how you choose. I do have many songs that suck. But this one about my mom is special to me and and to Alex and well... my mom, so I felt the need to respond to remind you all that I READ THESE COMMENTS. Have a great day :)

@@shotgunmondays Hi, I'm sorry that my comment offended you. I have autism so I don't always understand how my words affect others. I love most of your songs I just wasn't a huge fan of this one. The lyrics are nice I just personally didn't click with the melody. I truly apologize about offending you that wasn't my intention.

aw schucks there goes any quips about "the ONE dislike is from _____" Anyway in all seriousness, a little free advice in understanding that our words have meaning... the anonymity of youtube can make people lack (even more than their usual) remorse or empathy towards others. It's quite easy to spew whatever comment you want, even hurtful ones, at a lifeless screen, adding something of value takes more effort. Think about what you are saying first. Only type what you would tell that person face to face, and only speak how you would like to be spoken to. That's how conversations should go, and that's what were doing here after all. And sure everyone, including you, are entitled to their own opinion and are free to say whatever they please, but the empty "this sucks" adds nothing of value and isn't even constructive, it's only purpose is to put someones personal hard work down. So you know...let's try to not be that guy, in a sea of those guys.

@@shotgunmondays Hi I’ve only just come across this song and your music. This song is absolutely beautiful. Your music and lyrics have the ability to make people feel and evoke memories, sometimes long forgotten. You make me laugh, cry and just simply want to hear more. Thank you for your contribution to making this world a little bit more enjoyable. My daughter and I both have disabilities and haven’t managed to get to a theatre since covid began as I am still bed bound currently so listening and watching anything musical related is what keeps us on an even keel. Hopefully we will be moving to London soon and we will be able to get out a little more then, with the help of doctors I hope, but in the meantime, if you happen to read this thank you again to you, Alex who I also love from the clips of beetlejuice we have seen, and all the other artists who you have had on stage performing your work. You all do a great service in lifting peoples spirits as for some, covid is still an ever present threat to us and we have to still isolate from people a little to stay safe. Our oxygen only does so much! Here’s hoping things will improve next year. Take care and have a lovely thanksgiving and Christmas.
