Mom Ditched 4-Year-Old to Get Cosmetic Surgery: Cops

A 25-year-old Florida mom was arrested after allegedly leaving her four-year-old son home alone while she got cosmetic surgery in June. Doral police said Jessica Renteria rented an AirBnB in Miami-Dade County to have the procedure done nearby. Security footage from the apartment shows Renteria leaving her home in the morning. Hours later, the child emerged from the residence and began wandering. He was found a few hours later sleeping under a stairwell. That's exactly what I just commented I have a 4-year-old son and he would be freaking out if I left him he would not be comfortable with strangers at all if I just walk out to the car leave the front door open with him standing in the doorway to get something out of the car in the driveway he freaks out and cries like he cries when me and Dad go on a date night and he's left with his grandparents even and that's typical 4-year-old behavior they have separation anxiety at that age it's completely normal what's not normal is this child having no problem being alone smiling watching a phone talking to strangers that's what's abnormal how disgusting is it that this woman cared more about a cosmetic procedure than her child. Had money for a cosmetic procedure had money for an Airbnb but couldn't leave her kid with somebody. He could have died there should be way more severe penalties for this instead of just child endangerment to me this is attempted murder You leave a 4-year-old alone The likelihood of them getting hurt is so high You should know that. 😢

This case made me anxious by only watching it, just as you pointed out, what if... I recently babysat my 6-year-old nephew when my dog had a stomach problem and I had to take her out. He's a reasonable child, was doing his preschool exercises from his book and has been home alone for short times (minutes, not hours) before. I was out with the dog for 5-7 minutes, but I was still worried: What if something happens, I lock myself out, or the power goes out, and he starts panicking about being alone? As soon as my dog got her dirty deeds done, I rushed back inside to see that he was still focused on his book. There was a 0.01% chance that something would happen, but I still felt relieved to see him mumbling while drawing lines between objects. I can't imagine how are you not worried at all about what might happen with your child. I was keeping my eye on the door in case he for whatever reason decided to follow me out. And we live in a relatively safe and boring country where nothing ever happens...

Foster care isn't much better. My neighbor was caring for her niece in foster care when her exhusband babysat their kids and the baby. He killed the baby. His kids came to me begging me to help their "sister" because she wasn't breathing. It was the worst thing I ever went through and I have gone through some terrible things.

Maybe become a foster parent if you’re not too old for it. If you are, maybe volunteer to babysit children in hospitals. Lots of babies and kids don’t have their parents there and need someone to hold them, be with them, and play with them. I used to work as a nurse at a children’s hospital and I remember there being volunteers for that type of stuff.

She is SO lucky nothing worse happened. If she was comfortable leaving him while undergoing a procedure that required sedation, this is definitely not the first time he's been left to fend for himself. She will likely get a slap on the wrist and be allowed to further traumatize her son. It truly boggles my mind how some "parents" prioritize themselves and their wants over their child's most basic needs. I don't think people who have this level of decision-making should be given back any authority over their children without direct and stringent oversight until they prove they've learned and changed.

I agree with you totally. Thankfully, the child is ok. In the sense that he did not come to harms way. Physically, he may look ok, but mentally, he may not be. It definitely sounds like the pathetic mother has left her child alone and unattended on other occasions, too. He very likely could have been subjected to neglect. The mother is so cold and detached from any feelings and emotions for her child. The reason why this was not brought to anyone's attention before could be that she locked her door so that her child could not wander off outside. It's absolutely enraging when they only get a slap on the wrist, a small fine, or community service as this will not deter them away from repeating their selfish, negligent, and dangerous behaviour. She will be given back her parental rights and responsibilities, which is so pathetic as she is wrong and not responsible at all. Next time she does this, it may not end so well. It's crazy how they only start to take things more seriously after a major tragedy has happened instead of focusing on the prevention.
