I don't feep like this is click bait. It describes exactly what happened in the title. The ending was left like that because like with other accidents you may not know right away what is happening next. This family is entitled to not know whats happening next and can share on their own time.
@Williamnash443 жыл бұрын
Sadly it’s seems Garret has not taken this time to be introspective. Most people know none of this is in real time, a simple ‘Jess is okay’ would have sufficed. I’m sorry, but it’s an ACL injury, you know it’s not life threatening. I drove home after I ruptured my ACL both times. So the whole ‘we don’t know what’s happening next’ is BS. Why not just say it how it is: we share what generates the most views, it’s business. The lack of self awareness is astounding. Unsubscribed and unfollowed
@shinykeys5493 жыл бұрын
The biggest most painful personal growth for me came from feedback that didn’t feel that great but I had to take it onboard and grow from it because there was truth in it. The most upsetting part still is listening to Jess in agony while seeing the camera angle management as a dual priority. I probably could have gotten to her faster if I wasn’t managing a camera. Just something to think about.

You must have missed the build up to it on Instagram before the actually posted the video. It was absolute click bait, and this is what people are referring to, not just the title of this video. I’m not sure why they feel the need to do this. They are millionaires, with millions of followers... why do sketchy things for clicks?

@@Williamnash44 your reaction to your own injury doesn't reflect how others will feel when they are injured. When we watch these vlogs we are watching as a story unfolds, they are Story telling their lives. Each vlog is a new chapter of that story.
@Williamnash443 жыл бұрын
@@Soup2nutts I understand the nature of a vlog and have followed them from the beginning, mainly to give my wife and I ideas of where to travel next. Like Jessica, I have torn my ACL twice, I was also emotional the second time I tore it because i I knew the gravity of the recovery. The physio sessions, the pain etc. I think what they do and the life they lead is amazing. They are obviously incredible parents and I feel that they bring so much positivity to their audience. The only gripe I and others have had is how it’s turned into more of a production. It’s now more business oriented vs sharing travel stories. Clickbait headlines, ‘Bucketlist Friends’ subscription, small Bucketlist Cartoon investor’s only got a medallion and no share of the company (they corrected after a backlash) etc. This video made a lot of people feel uneasy mainly because Garret decided to use the injury outcome as a cliffhanger, even though they already knew the outcome. That’s their prerogative and I’m sure they have even more views in part 2, but that’s not something I want to follow.

Idk sometimes people are intuitive and can “feel” when somethings not right. Not saying that’s Jess because only Jess would know that... but her tears before getting in the helicopter were very uncharacteristic of her, especially considering all of the adventurous & daring things they typically do. That being said (and I truly don't mean any disrespect) I want anyone reading this to understand how dangerous heli-skiing can be if you aren't a highly skilled skier. As a lifelong skier I immediately noticed some red flags that suggested they didn't have the skill level or experience to be out there. I do not mean that Jess "deserved" to be hurt in any way because no one deserves that and injuries can of course happen to anyone no matter how experienced. But please please please (to anyone reading) do NOT attempt heli-skiing unless you are an advanced/expert skier and comfortable with any terrain on the mountain. I completely agree with you. As a lifelong skier and ski instructor...Heli Skiing is about respect. Respect for the mountain. Respect for the ski ability it takes. Not that I am saying the Bucket List Family did what follows....this is a message to all skiers...To go Heli Skiing just so one can say "I went Heli Skiing" is not respectful. It is not respectful to all of those that have prepared for it and can actually ski it/snowboard it well. Powder skiing is completely different than groomed hills. One must prepare for years. {Even if Jess had't fallen I would be saying this] Garrett has been fantastic at helping his family prepare to go surfing step by step by step....lessons and practice and on and on...before taking them to Mexico. Heli skiing takes even more preparation...years of skiing on groomed ski hills in all kinds of conditions and then on ski hills that get powder whenever one gets the chance....and then once one is good at light and heavy powder THEN go Heli Skiing. And be a rock star! And tell everyone because they will know you prepared and you skiied it well!

Exactly. Skiing is not my expertise but I showed my partner who has served his whole life in Hawaii the videos of the kids surfing and then the Mexico trip taking the children out to the big waves and them talking about being pro Surfers and taking your leash off. Taking your leash off is one of the worst things you can do while surfing and yet Garrett was teaching the kids how to do that in a swimming pool. There were number of red flags that show they weren't ready to be out on big waves either but everyone takes it as heat rather than genuine concern for someone who is putting human lives at severe risk
@taylormonson62133 жыл бұрын
@@ikeepmysideofthestreetclean garret was teaching the kids to remain calm and remove their leash in the event that it gets stuck under a rock, and the child cannot break free. this is exactly what you would need to do in said situation while surfing, or else you would most definitely drown! Garrett, in response to your comments on Instagram about Jess crying in hospital about hurtful comments: I’m sorry to hear it. I did not want her to cry. What I miss in your comments is some self-reflection. Why do you think so many people responded angrily? Because they care about you and Jess and the kids! Deeply! If the omission of any more details was not a ‘for profit’ choice but a sincere failure to see how a ‘tbc’ would slam into caring people’s hearts, then I would have expected some kind of self-reflection too. Such as: “I never realized that our viewers would react so strongly to not knowing the extent of Jessica’s injuries after this scary footage.” Pro-tip: Next time add a simple line at the end of the video, such as, “At this point we cannot give more details about Jessica’s condition. She is presently at home/in hospital awaiting surgery.” For all we knew she could have broken her back or pelvis, she could have suffered blood loss and be in mortal peril, she could have suffered from paralysis... I was genuinely very scared for Jessica after your gloomy comments. As I wrote in an earlier comment, you owe none of us anything. But when people become emotionally invested in your family, when they genuinely care, and you frighten the hell out of those caring hearts, then those caring hearts will respond with some fierce, human emotions. I agree with you that comments should not be intentionally hurtful. But! If your omission to reassure viewers was not intentional, why not say so? Own it. Say something along the lines of finding it heartwarming that so many people were worried about Jess and that you had not expected the backlash when you couldn’t say more. Let’s face it Garrett, ending only on ‘to be continued’ does make it seem as if it was an editorial cliffhanger rather than an inability to say more. You have used clickbait in your titles before (which is fine, it’s your business) so don’t blame your viewers for thinking this was a tasteless editing choice. It had the full appearance of it. If it wasn’t, then I take back my earlier comments. However, I still think it would be fair to acknowledge that most viewers responded this strongly and emotionally because they genuinely care about you and Jess, because they were terribly worried about her. We all make mistakes and at times fail to see the consequences of our choices, especially in times of great stress. I think that most of those who responded with emotional outrage would be the first to forgive you if you addressed it thus, if you acknowledged the fear you unintentionally put into your viewers’ caring hearts. There are two sides to this story - it isn’t just your viewers being mean. I am sorry to hear Jess was crying about the comments and I apologize for my part in it. I wish Jess a speedy recovery.

@@resiliencebyveronica7601 Exactly. I defended them on Instagram when people were criticising Garret for being vague and not giving all the details and accusing him of click baiting- I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and thought that perhaps he was just stressed and had a lot on his mind and felt the video would explain the situation better. However the fact that they’ve taken the time to put together a dramatic, beautifully edited vlog and decided to end it up in the air like this just to get more views is really disappointing. They’ve always seemed very connected to their audience, but perhaps on this occasion they’ve forgotten that there are real people watching and worrying.

Hey Garrett and Jess, I hope you are doing ok, particularly Jess. I have been following you for years - like so many - and truly adore you. I hope you can see that the vast majority of comments are not hateful or unkind. I actually have truly seen zero mean comments. "This is clickbait" is not hate; it is not unkind. It's a statement of obvious fact. It's not okay to ask viewers to only ever respond with "omg so cute" no matter what, and to try and guilt people on instagram when they don't submit to your expectation of unequivocal applause. It is well within your rights to post whatever you wish, but it surely also well within the viewer's rights to feel uncomfortable with a post and to say so. There's a minimum level of privacy, respect and sincerity that was lacking in this video and the original "something bad has happened" insta story. Precisely because it *is* your real life, and not fiction, there's a sense of callous disconnect when you use cliffhanger tactics and insensitive music about something that has truly happened, and (worse) is currently happening, as per your suggestion - and most importantly, when it is something that is happening not to YOU, Garrett, but to Jessica, who is not the editor of these videos. It is obvious and has been for a long time that Jess often ignores her boundaries to make Garrett happy. This is particularly striking when she then falls and is being filmed in real time for the benefit of YT. Yes, I know she's an adult and agrees to this, but the impression that the videos give over time is that she doesn't have another option if she wants to maintain her marriage. Of course this dynamic is gonna leave viewers a little bit unimpressed. Hey, it may be totally different in real life - but this is the impression that the videos give. IT IS ALL UP TO YOU HOW YOU HANDLE IT. But it's not cool to shame viewers for giving honest, and in this case totally warranted, feedback.

Garrett commented today accusing people of being judgmental- I have always admired this family but the charged language of “heartbreaking” “terrible” and leaving ambiguity on the nature of the injury has been maddening. This video was one thing, but the instagram story leading up to it and saying that something tragic happened to then post this video has just been ridiculous. It’s clear clickbaiting. Don’t say “social media doesn’t come before family” if you ARE using social media just choosing not to say “btw guys she is fine but has injured her ACL” for the sake of more social media interaction. Im frustrated at the blindness! People die skiing. People get traumatic life altering injuries skiing. A torn ACL is not heartbreaking or horrifying. It could have been so much worse. People have been so concerned for Jess. Please see where the problem is!

The clip at the start (to me at least) is a flashback to the moment in time that stood out the most, just like any recollection of the past, and goes along with the title. You guys don’t pretend that anything other than what happened is what happened. Anyone who has watched for years knows it’s not click bait and that you all lead incredible, larger than average lives. they are literally the only youtubers that don't do clickbait can't we all just chill because of ONE video?? yall are acting crazy

@@ab-op5bg one video?? 😂What about the ‘Dad saves’ video’s ( where dad never saved anybody), what about the shark cage video, (the thumbnail with Manilla’s foot out of the cage) what about the ‘all good things must come to an end’ video (nothing actually came to an end)... All they seem to do nowadays is use click bait😅

I Have a daughter with a partner who is into extreme mountain skiing life, and while it's good you got her help and had a sat phone you did all the right things to help. I hope Jessica is alright, and grateful you had a sat phone.

The way Cali falls is hilarious! It's like plop! 🤣 He's doing so good skiing! 🎿 I know I couldn't do what he did! Dorothy & Manilla ski like pros! ⛷️🏂 Hope Jessica is ok! 🙏🏻

Heartbroken about Jess’ injury, surrounding you in hugs and prayers. p.s. the song “Love of my life” had me in serious tears. ♥️

The negative comments aren’t about you “sharing the ups AND downs” it’s the fact you used a serious accident as clickbait.

I’m confused as to how this point isn’t being comprehended. His Instagram story a few hours ago didn’t do him any justice. I really felt like he dug himself a bigger hole. Have u watched it?

@@Mia15239 What he said on Instagram this morning doesn’t justify or relate to the clickbait.

@@jennadavidson5598 do u mean it doesn’t relate but he was addressing it? But obviously missed the mark trying to address it..?
