I love that these videos show JUST HOW HARD it is to hand craft cute things. The practice, the expertise, the creativity. And why things that are hand made can be much more expensive than things that are mass produced. Great real life glimpse into that. I also appreciate that she buys the things that she's replicating to still support the business, rather than just using them for inspiration without compensating them in some way. Just another way Mia Maples is top tier.
@annastasia.1 Жыл бұрын
Nah. This video actualy showed that you can do a decent job with no experience. And she probably would be able to make good earings with a little bit of practice. She wasn't too far away from that.
@sariahcheadle9909 Жыл бұрын
@@annastasia.1 Yeah, I do really understand your point and I think this video does show that as well. And it IS a good encouragement to make your own crafts. But I think a key difference is that they are only "decent" crafts that she made, as well as I wouldn't say she doesn't have any experience. She's been crafting in general for a long time, and that's carrying over a lot. Also, a big thing is just the time factor. To be able to sell hand made goods for a profit you have to be much more efficient. But yes! I think her videos definitely show that you are much more capable than you think! And she does say that all the time "if I can do it, you can certainly do it." It's more about practice and being willing to try more than anything.
@sbo311 ай бұрын
@@sariahcheadle9909 Yeah I mean I see both sides. Last Christmas I wanted to buy my mum a handmade stocking and I was annoyed at the prices on Etsy so with no sewing experience at all I thought it would be fun to make one. I actually did a fantastic job (if I say so myself) and decided to start selling on Etsy but honestly, I now understand why it is £30 for a handmade stocking. Tbh I am guessing I am quite slow (it takes me 2-3 hrs to make one) so if I charge £30, after materials and Etsy fees it is definitely below minimum wage. Which is a bummer because it is super fun and I'd love to make it work (I can now make basically anything which is cool!). I just have no idea how most people are making it a profitable business. I'd have to be able to make a stocking in an hour for it to work which I can't see how it's possible. I guess I'd need to bulk make - like make a bunch of liners, make a bunch of cuffs etc etc so they are all ready to go. Idk, I'm probably just going to sell the bits I make for fun. I could never make anywhere near my day job. Long reply sorry

@@LostMatcha humble self depreciation. Hers weren't that far off, if she hadn't compared them I'd never know. Besides flaws make it look less like a factory assembly line piece. And at $45.00 for one earrings? That was Mia's first try, a few more times and she's going to surpass them. I'd like to see her use the clay to make dollhouse pieces and Christmas ornaments. Mom prank. I inadvertently pranked my dad. It was only air dry modeling clay & I used 🤍 cookie cutters. I painted them and dusted powder on some. The others were painted & topped with real cupcake candy sprinkles which I was going to spray with sealer later. I put them on a doily covered saucer & they looked like real cookies. I brought them because I wanted to show my daughter (last time my plaster cake didn't go so well and I redeemed myself) I already had food on the counter so without thinking he passed by and tried a cookie - they did look pretty scrumptious! It was soft enough not to break a tooth but he's 80 so he doesn't know, the only thing he could think was- these are the most awful inedible cookies. When I explained, he couldn't understand the point of fake food. Maybe it is a dumb idea, but I had fun doing it

Helpful tips for polymer clay: to soften the clay, use a pasta machine so your hands don't feel broken the next day. If the clay is old, use a drop or two of baby oil to mix in. To shade your polymer clay items, use CHALK pastels. I've bought oil pastels by accident so many times, because the packaging looks all the same. Also, use E6000 glue or UV resin to glue together pieces after baking.

Hey Mia! I wanted to give you (and anyone else reading) some tips when working with clay. 🥰 It can be hard to mix and hurt your hands so there are acrylic rolling pins as well as other little devices to help you. However, if polymer clay is something you really want to get into I recommend looking into a Never Knead. It’s basically an arbor press that you rig to make the clay SO much easier and faster to work with. I own one and it’s such a lifesaver. They also make clay conditioner too because clay can become hard and crumbly over time so I would look into that too! Best of luck on your polymer clay journey. 💕 Also, soft/chalk pastels work great for shading. You just shave a little bit of the bar off and it becomes a powder that you can shade/color with! And you can use eyeshadow for this step too if you don’t want to buy the soft pastels! I hope this helps!

Just to contribute a bit. Anyway thanks a lot again, sweetheart!

Hi! If you’re planning to make more polymer clay items in the future, I suggest having a rolling pin or a pasta machine to roll the clay into uniform thickness. They can also help you mix colors and achieve gradients. There’s also clay cutters to make uniform shapes (ex. The heart earrings and flowers) You can also use cookie cutters for these. Many etsy shops also make them. There’s also a thin blade you can use to cut and pick up clay so that they dont get ruined with hands being oicked up. For texturing, you can use crumpled tin foil and sandpaper for miniature baked goods. Then the pastels appropriate for these are soft or chalk pastels. They’re the powdery ones. You can also use make up or mica powders as alternatives! Btw I love the video!!! I always enjoy whenever you make something, you learn and improve immediately 💕

Omg I just love Mama Maples! Her relationship with Mia is the best and I always love how supportive she is of everything that Mia does. Also, is it just me or is Mama looking especially beautiful in this one? Great job on the earrings, Mia. You are so talented!

I'm only a few years older than Mia and I don't even have any kids but watching her videos makes me so strangely emotional in the way that if I were her mother I'd be so incredibly proud of her and in awe of her talent, kindness and inner/outer beauty. Like Mama & Papa maples did a REAL GOOD job raising Mia 😭
