When Neveah holds that makeup to her chest like she is treasuring it… we forget what these kids have been through and what their bio families have been through, Alicia and Josh take care of these incredible kids, and in turn their bio families because when you take care of their kids when they can’t you’re taking care of the bio parents too who for whatever reason (many valid reasons out there) cannot. The necessity for foster care and adoption is never a blessing, but if you need to be there to end up in a family such as this of safety and love, the world needs more Dougherty families.

You warm my heart!! As a therapist who specializes in treating eating disorders in children and adolescents I love how supportive you are with food choices!! So many parents are way too strict and this leads the kiddos to binge, restrict, and or use compensatory behaviors. I love how you allow them to intuitively eat and have a judgment free food home. I also love how you still incoporate a lot of nutrient dense foods like fruits and veggies in your snack plates. I love your awareness of mental health and how you are not afraid to show medicine and talk about the mental health issues. Keep up the amazing work! We need more people like you in this world! 💕💕

I could tell the kids weren't maybe so shy as to them just being afraid to go past the limit. I can totally relate to that, whenever it's a special thing or even when I go shopping when someone else is paying I'm asking "What do you think we should get?" "which one" ect. I'm not even adopted, that's just with my own parents! 😂 I'll never understand how spoiled kids live with themselves, I've seen some and I'm always like "omg I could never do that" lol

I agree, and I wonder if maybe giving them a "budget" like $40 for food and $200 for clothes might encourage them to splurge a little for themselves. Personally I know I was always more comfortable picking stuff out when my parents took me shopping if I knew I wasn't causing financial issues.

We adopted our son when he was 9 from foster care. For the first few weeks he'd ask before going into the kitchen for anything. We have an "open door" policy in our kitchen to anyone who comes into our home. By 11 he was asking for cookbooks and specific ingredients to be bought so he could learn how to cook. He's 22 now and cooks several meals a week and bakes cakes for fundraisers in the community. It makes me so happy to see other parents with the same "fed is best" philosophy.

But when you put it like that it makes sense that my sister for a while didn’t like to share shampoo bottle ,(even if we used the exact same brand). Younger me wasn’t smart enough just to accept it. I disagree as parents it’s our duty to keep our children healthy. Not meaning to down any of the children but they are not at a healthy weight and can lead to health problems as they get older. Like high blood pressure and diabetes. High blood pressure runs in my family so I have told my sons since their late teens to make better choices with food and they may not end up like me on 3 medications for HTN as is my mother. And her mother died after a stroke. It’s ok to not agree with your childrens choices. If they get mad at you they get over it. I’d rather my child not have a sandwich at all than give a marshmallow fluff sandwich. Fruit and yogurt will be fine just on their own. The lunches always have so much food. I think she just never wants to have her children upset or mad at her. She is the parent and it’s your job to steer your children in the right direction in life. They can’t always just do what they think is right.

My husband and I have suffered 2 miscarriages and in August we will be celebrating 7 years married….we are praying about what to do, but would absolutely love to adopt. However, we were told that because my husband is over 50, we cannot apply. He is 51 and I am 37. Literally broke our hearts and we live in Tennessee. If anyone is out there and you’re pregnant or want a loving couple to adopt your child, we will gladly take them. We are a loving couple and we love God. We trust He will send us the blessings. Oh and Alicia, my favorite memories include going shopping with my mama. Same places, Walmart and grocery talking about what supper we would prepare. I cherish those memories now. God bless your family!!

Love this so much ❤️❤️ as a mom of 3 my self and a former foster parent this melts my heart!!! We are courtly taking a break after the system did wrong by our last set of babies!!! We had a sibling group of three they were age 1 , 3 and 4 we had them for 3 years they had not seen mom in over 3 years. The 3 year old was taken at hospital and same as the one year old so they never knew mom!! In the 3 years we had them she never showed to a visit!! We were just a few weeks out from adoption and we got slammed with a mom visit ( we were in shock) like what was going on so they did one supervise visit.. and then we get a phone call saying that the next weekend they would be going to stay at mom‘s for the weekend me being who I am and she was high as a kite at her visitation with them I couldn’t wrap my head around this this was the hardest thing I ever did these three were my babies you know and yes the ultimate goal is to send them home but for over three years there was never no contact and it wasn’t because she was locked up it wasn’t because she was in a program getting the help she need it wasn’t she just chose not to.. I guess let me rephrase that her addiction had taken over but at the same time the children deserved better.. so the next weekend we meet up where we’re supposed to meet she is so hard she can’t even stand and she’s driving refused to put the kids in the car there’s no way I was in my three babies in a car like this I couldn’t do it I called their social worker she said that I had to I told her I would not do it that she needed to meet us here obviously we had to drive a little over an hour to meet so she wasn’t local but she sent a sheriff to us and the sheriff put these three kids in the car knowing this mother was so messed up.. I was devastated I spent the whole weekend crying I was supposed to get phone calls each night to be able to talk to the children before they went to bed that didn’t happen.. when we picked them up on Sunday they ran and they hugged us so tight they did not wanna let go they cried saying they didn’t want to go back if I’ve learned anything you just comfort them you don’t really ask a whole Lotta questions I’ll tell you what they want you to know but all I didn’t know was these kids loved me I loved them and they did not feel safe.. I talked with her social worker and their therapist and they steal the next weekend we’re gonna have to go for a visit I told the social worker there is no way that I would take them there’s no way I could not take them and put them through that again after the stories they told to the therapist no the therapist did not tell me I was with them when they talk to the therapist do they talk to them one on one yes but I also do a family session with them and the stories that were told on what happened while they were there to this day the therapist and I both cannot figure out how they allowed this to happen.. so basically the social worker said so you’re refusing to take them to the visit is that correct I said yes they’re not safe there my husband and I both agreed on that the next morning the social worker and two other workers showed up at my house and removed the kids from us they said since we did not want to you follow the steps the children were being removed!! At this point there was nothing I could do we called our local sheriff and had him come out and unfortunately they actually belong to the state there was nothing we could do this happened four years ago and I have not yet been able to open my home Back up!! I have nightmares all the time I cry for these kids all the time it was like losing your own children in a bad situation it would’ve been different if they were at home for a good situation I would’ve felt totally different but I will tell you the state of Kentucky did these three children and many other so wrong and one day I hope to get the courage to open my Home back up because I know deep down there are children out there that need me that need a family that just need a little love so hopefully he’ll one day I will be able to do this again.. but seeing you do this for these kids is a blessing that was my favorite thing to do as soon as I got them was it take them to Walmart let them pick out the bedding for their bed a special blanket snacks a little toy that made them feel special let them pick out their toothbrush what toothpaste they wanted always did a little kids but I always let them pick out what they wanted her hair washed in let them pick out a couple of outfits and PJs if they needed diapers or pull-ups and were big enough I let them pick out which ones they wanted you know socks underwear just all the things I enjoyed that I did we get sibling group sometimes and it was a struggle to figure out how we were going to take them and let them just pick out what they wanted yeah because sometimes you just got a phone call and the next thing you know they’re there and you’re like you had no time but somehow we always figured it out being a foster parent can be hard but it’s also so rewarding I just wish people would do things for the children a little more I’m new to your channel but I honestly love watching you and I’m hoping as I continue to watch you I will get that courage to open my Home back up ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Everything in moderation! You are an amazing mother! It's beautiful the way you love them, new or not! I also love how you told the cashier that God gave you them in that way! I've taken a liking to Naveah from the start - I see so much of myself from when I was her age and NOW at 26 - shy and nervous about speaking up about her needs and wants, when she taught us how to jerk, I could see part of her personality growing more and more confident from the simple fact she felt confident enough in her own knowledge of a dance that she felt she could teach yall and us. I notice those small things and the physical presence when you're nervous or lack confidence, but she is growing so much into a BEAUTIFUL young woman, becoming more confident in herself and im SOOOO happy to see her blossoming and her personality shining through more and more. We love you guys 🥰

You make me want to cry…the immediate love you show is incredible. There is no telling what these 2 have had to go through, but you just made their lives 1000% better by not judging food choices, buying them items they specifically asked for, and allowing them to have communication. God has truly made your heart gold. I wish I could give you a hug. I’ve not had my children in 11 years and even though they live with their dad, these videos give me reassurance that my children are fed, dressed, given what they need, etc. It’s scary for a mother to relinquish custody because tons of scenarios go through your head. Are they being hurt? Are they hungry? Etc. In my case, because I have not been asked to come back to take custody, I know they’re ok. I just want you to know you are protecting someone else’s children like your own, and that’s invaluable. Again, you make me want to cry. I know I made the correct decision in my situation. I am grateful these 2 sweet children have someone like you and your husband. God bless you Alicia. I have been praying for your family since you said you pray for all of us. 💕

You and your Hubby are truly heroes! How loving you are to your beautiful children. I love how you treat them all the same.. What I mean is, you don't single anyone out, everyone gets equal loving attention. I love how judgement free you are. Years ago when I ran away from my abusive home, I was placed in a home with both a mix of the couple's own children and us... we were put in a room far away from the "real children". We were told that we were the revolving kids and we were not to bother or expect the same treatment as the "real children". It was horrible. Even worse because it was Christmas time, we had to stay in the room for the revolving kids or RKids (that's what they called us) while they made cookies and celebrated.. We were treated like we were just in the way and burdens. They're kids could treat us anyway they wanted and if we said anything we would get threatened and sent to the "time out" room in their basement. It was awful all that was in there was a little stool or we could sit on the cement floor. Awful things happened in that home. They wouldn't even get us teen girls "things" teen girls need monthly. It was horrible. One good thing came out of it though. Another girl came I'm a couple of days after I did and we became really close friends. We would call each other soul sisters, since we didn't have any of our own. We both had ran away from very abusive homes and placed in this foster home..She said she really wanted a doll. They refused her request, because they said she was too old. I was 13 she was 15. I've always believed nobody is too old for a doll. So I made her a cloth doll out of a shirt and some odds and ends from I my little craft box. It was the only thing I took with me when I left home. The house lady tried to take it away but said we could only keep her for extra housework. Anyway my new friend kept her doll and named her Angel. She was able to hang on to her through the next group home and last foster family she stayed with. I spoke to her about a year ago and she still has Angel... I'm sorry, I got off track. I think of so many who were lost in the shuffle because of horrible foster families. My sister friend and I dealt with some awful things where we stayed but we had no choice. I struggle daily with depression and PTSD but I've survived. I think about the ones who didn't survive and wish so much they could've been in a family like yours..You and your husband are truly selfless and real Angel's here on earth.

I feel like I learned a lot about compassion from Alicia from this one vlog. The whole food ice breaker thing and using it as a way to learn something about the new kids. The comment about being fed is more important than judging their food choices. Breaking the rule about not having food in kids' rooms, because it helps them feel more secure and maybe not worry about food insecurity as much. I was a bit weirded out by the cashier's question (it seemed a bit pointed?) but wow Alicia just turned it around simply by being genuine.

Deep down, I really believe the cashier did not ask that question with any menace. Her tone of voice was calm and friendly. I taught my child from a young age through adulthood, that any question you ask due to curiosity can actually hurt that person, I know. I’ve been on the end of receiving those curious question(s). If anyone who reads this can teach even one person that their curious question could possibly hurt someone, then don’t ask it. You know the saying think before you ask (talk).

100% agree with you. I took custody of my grandchildren 6 years ago. Their friends can be out with us for dinner, on vacation with us or just at the park. When I am asked are they all yours? I always say yes, they are in my care and their safety and well-being is no less than my grandkids. Yes, we go to Walmart too, whatever they put in the cart comes home with us. Some of this kids don't have grandparents around. So, I am proud to be there for them. Girl if lived next door and I was babysitting for. Need to go somewhere, yes they, plus mine and all the friends would be mine for the time. Did 20 year for my Country to my sure my kids and yours have the freedom and the rights to a home like you and Josh are providing and working through the systems. I salute y'all.

I had wondered for a moment what your new kiddos might think of the camera but they seem so comfortable with you, and I noticed you make a point not to always show their face. It's really nice that you're not constantly up.in their business. You are SO respectful to them, unlike a lot of other parents who have a habit of treating their kids like property over a living being with free will.
