Very refreshing to see succulents being showcased in a humid climate! Succulents were my gateway plant and you're so right when you say they really destroy your confidence! they just died soo fast. Luckily, I got the hang of it, and have kept many alive for several years - but there are definitely some genus that I still haven't cracked.

I let the cuttings dry out for days to callous before planting, protect them from rotting. Fallen leaves I just leave on top of the soil and they root on their own and grow into new plants. They thrive on neglect. I also found you can grow roots by placing them in water then transfer to soil when you have enough roots. Your doggos are so cute!

@@onlyplants I started my houseplant journey with succulents something like 20 years ago, and I've always just grown them in store bought soil mix, not even the one designed for cacti. But that was in Poland where the humidity barely reaches 40% most of the time. Here in NY I just killed one. I cared for it the same way as I did for my collection when I was a teenager in Poland, the only difference was the humidity, it is summer now and summers on Long Island are very humid. I guess I have to re-learn how to take care for succulents now :). I hope your bowls are doing well, we would love some updates (once you settle in the new place of course).

@@onlyplants I did both peperomia for terrarium ( I think closed) and succulent for open terrarium.... basically I do have black thumb which I am willing and training them to be more green. trying, studying, learning, and trying. so far my conclusion is foliage indoor plants are more suited esp in tiny indoor flat style in SG. its been very very rainy in SG so again, monitor & adjustment to light / watering conditions for green babies. thanks for reply and again your mama is sweet :)

Hello, as far as I know vermiculite isnt do same job like perlit. Most people says that it does an opposite job, vermiculite keeps the soil really moist. But I am not really sure.
@onlyplants4 жыл бұрын
Vermiculite actually dries out really fast and is very airy. In fact when I bottom water plants that have vermiculite, it will “hiss” loudly as it absorb the water.

Im making a string of dolphins prop and care video. Bright indirect light (some direct is good for them) and let them dry out completely between watering. I give mine a cacti potting mix and terracotta pot, watered daily as the media will dry within a few hours in this set up. No root rot/overwatering so far.

Hi Sean, wanna ask you about worm casting since you use it in all your potting mix except for succulents, does it encourage live worm in the soil after some time? Hope your answer is NO coz I truly hate them🐸
@you_r_my-world22884 жыл бұрын
I do not like worms or caterpillars Kills my soul lol
@onlyplants4 жыл бұрын
Yes I have found tiny worms in my potting mix probably from worm casting. They are super tiny and you can only see them drowning when you bottom water them. Earthworms are 100% harmless to us, in fact I’d go as far as say that they are sterile. They feed on organic matter and break them down into nutrients which really really benefits the plants. Earthworms exist in abundance in nature all over the world.

Haha but they hate us too 😆 we are actually encroaching their natural habitat... and they have every right to live as we do. They usually turn into butterflies and moths which is essential for pollination. My advice is to live with them harmoniously and find beauty in them and forgiveness if they eat your leaf. I hear water infused in garlic can deter them if sprayed onto the leaves.
