It's clear the mom didn't love him. Anyone with a genuine love would never wish harm on their loved one even if they betrayed them in the worst of ways. Even though her son never betrayed her, she still wished harm on him. It's clear there was something egotistic about her son that may have fulfilled her, but it seems like she valued the way being a mother felt rather than the actual happiness of her son.
