$600 a week is not even enough to support herself and has to pay rent. She is lucky to have her parents helping her with one child.
@tammy620616 сағат бұрын
This is an old episode, probably from the 1990s. Depending on where she lived, $600 per week would have actually been a comfortable lifestyle.
@vivienallen551316 сағат бұрын
@tammy6206 I am 70 years old. I can only tell you that 55 years ago, I had a great job as the manager of a manufacturing company and made 40 thousand dollars a year but I find that it was expensive to support a child for a few reasons. I bought a house in a good neighborhood and I had a car to drive to work. I hired a nanny to care for my child, and saved money for the child's education. I worked for the same company for 25 years and then got a higher paying job. That is why I said that $600 a week is not enough.
@tammy620615 сағат бұрын
@vivienallen5513 That's really impressive, and thank you for sharing. But in 1996, the median US household income was about $35k, and the average household size was 3.2 people. So your income as a single mom was more than what many other dual income families earned. A private nanny is a luxury that the average family still doesn't enjoy. But the defendant could have easily provided a safe home, reliable vehicle, decent public schools, etc. on $600 per week in the 90s.
@vivienallen551315 сағат бұрын
@tammy6206 Tammy, I am a Canadian from Ontario. Our cost of living is slightly higher if we want to live in good neighborhoods. I remember at that time, I bought a small bungalow for $95,000, and today's market for the same bungalow is over one million, which is not affordable now for people. I know that US houses are cheaper and maybe the cost of living is cheaper too because I have siblings living in the US.

Okay, I was on the fence about this one until "judge" Judy totally ignored this young woman's statement about being raped and then JJ screams that you made a baby????? Bad, bad, bad. The father seems like he could easily bully these two young girls into giving him the truck and the mother seems like she could be reasonable. The young girl is trying but isn't ready to take on adult responsibilities full time. This young boy is understandably having a challenge. But dismissing a rape charge in the manner Judy did, was unconsiconable.
