My great grandfather and great grandmother use to tell us stories of things like this happening at the Indian School in Phoenix. Some of the stories they told were pretty bad of what use to happen. They cut their hair to make them more “American” and take them away from their heritage. It was a form of degradation. Not everything in history books is what actually happened, just a watered down version to make the victors more human, but we all know that history isn’t human.
