Funny facts,, the guy that plays James, (Troy Baker) is actually the guy who voices Joel in the Game😊 and the mother who gives birth to Ellie in episode 9 (Ashley Johnson) voices Ellie in the game😊

According to the director of the game (sidenote: he also worked on the show) it's a story about love and the good or bad actions it can drive us to.

Every zombie story that’s worth it’s weight as a story isn’t about zombies. It’s always an allegory. It’s always about people.

Old school zombie movies were literally a creeping threat of communism allegory. They’re always about people. When you start to view stories written by people through that lens, you start to understand them a lot more.

Joel in the game is a force to be taken very seriously. He has the skill, but most importantly the drive & will to kill anyone he deems a threat.

I don't consider the ending to be a cliffhanger. Too much was accomplished on their journey, physically and personally to callbit that. I would say that for me, it's ambiguous. (Or it was back when there wasn't a sequel) but I think the point still stands with the themes of love and sacrifice.
@wilwaycoholland4337

The way I read the ending was that, there was a main character death. The whole season is about them building this companionship and this trust, the main character of the show is their relationship. She knew Joel was lying, and when she gave him a chance to come clean, he doubled down and lied again. He broke their trust.

Bella Ramsey said that she played that last scene as her being disappointed in Joel. She doesn't know what exactly happened at the hospital, but she knows that Joel had lied to her about it, and this was giving him one last chance to tell him the truth.

The ending of the game was more or less identical to this, with Joel lying to Ellie. The second game (which the creators said they are going to follow for season 2) is definitely a continuation, albeit completely different (without spoiling anything).

The game ended the exact same way. Imagine playing it for hours to get that ending, not knowing if there would be a sequel and then having to wait 7 years for it. That also made the ending tougher, going on this long journey for a cure to get a happy ending, only for Joel to change his mind and murder everyone, dooming the world forever.

Anyone who made it that far into the game and was still expecting a happy ending was not paying attention. Pretty much every character you meet ends in tragedy (except for Tommy). Was anyone seriously playing this for the first time without knowing anything about it and expecting the game to save the world and everyone lived happily ever after?

Enjoyed watching your reaction to the last of us. the game is so much better in my opinion, they changed some things in the show that I don’t think was needed apart from some of the back story of the outbreak and seeing Ellie’s mum which I thought was a nice touch. In the game you also get to see Bill and Ellie’s interactions which is probably my favourite part of the game, Iv watched a dozen play throughs so could recommend a good one of part1 and part2 or shortened versions that you can watch like a movie if you are interested ?

Ellie's gay panic with Riley is so adorable. She's so smitten. Yeah, the wound care is definitely dramatized. Even forgetting infection, she was stitching up the surface wound, but there was still likely internal damage that also needed to be stitched up. I'll give them a pass on that for sake of the story. The show (and game) was never about the infected. It's about Joel and Ellie. The infected aren't the "big bad" of the show. They're just a hazard you have to deal with. The real evil is people. Not good or bad people. Just people. I absolutely love that Ashley is playing Ellie's mom in the show. Yes, there will be a 2nd season. The first game ended exactly the same way. Ellie has had what she felt was her reason to exist taken from her and doesn't know what's next. That "what now?" feeling we get watching the ending, is exactly what Ellie is feeling. FYI, the surgery wouldn't have been a lobotomy. It would have killed her.

3 episodes in one vid thats binging. the game ends the same way as the show does, the game writer wanted the ending to be mysterious like that. there will be a season 2 based on the 2nd game. ellie suspects joel is not telling the truth but goes with it for now. riley and ellie met in a comic called american dreams. the game and show are different just because you are in the game AS joel and ellie some. there are more infected to shoot and kill, different kinds like the big one.

Pleasantly surprised that Ellie's kiss with Riley appeared in this video. I didn't expect to see it here after the episode 3 reaction video cut out any scenes indicating that Bill and Frank were a romantic couple.

It's a show based on a video game. Which means its story is shallow. If we look at the story as soil that you can scratch away, it's about half an inch deep - with hard bedrock direct underneath. But a lot of teenagers will tell you how this was "the deepest story" they "ever experienced" in their lives. Which is true, of course - sad as it may be. 90% of those who played the game were also crying that the show wasn't more like the game. "More like the game" in this case means: waves and waves of infected that Ellie and Joel have to llik. And don't get me started on the mortstihs over episode three...a.k.a. "the yag" episode. And boy, oh boy, were there a lot of discussions going on, about how Joel had no right to make the decision for Ellie. Strangely enough, the same people had no problem with Marlene making the decision for Ellie. Hypocrisy of the highest order.

This is a really interesting perspective on it. Yes I missed all that conversation about it. I think neither of them should have made the decision for her, but ultimately I think Joel reached the "correct" conclusion, in that they shouldn't kill her for the cure. He just went about it in the wrong way. The ends don't justify the means.

"It's a show based on a video game. Which means its story is shallow." Wow, just ... wow. Tell me you've never played the video game without telling played the video game. 😆 This game was (and still is) universally praised for every part of its gameplay, but especially its story, which was deeper and more profound that pretty much every other video game that came out at the same time (or before then). "were there a lot of discussions going on, about how Joel had no right to make the decision for Ellie. Strangely enough, the same people had no problem with Marlene making the decision for Ellie." Um, yeah, they did have this problem with Marlene making the decision for Ellie. They were saying that neither Joel nor Marlene had the right to make this decision for her - that *she* should have made this decision for herself. Seriously, your comment made me laugh a lot, so I should thank you.
