i just wanna know when "G^od damn it!" & "Chr^st!" became legal for network. Same with "Sh^t!" & "A$$hole." on cable. The FCC can't legally caption it, so idk what's going on? i don't mind it too much, esp. cable, cos i'm PAYING FOR NOT-NETWORK-TV. (That was the sales pitch back when cable was invented, i remember it.) As a buddhist, i think we need to be compassionate. As a Dem/Ind, 40 year resident in the state home of the Westboro Baptist 'Church': KANSAS, that one PHRASE, means i can't share this w/ my fbfs w/o getting jumped all over, & that's a shame cos it was funny!! @Username I don't think so. This just shows that the parents we think we'll become isn't necessarily who we are, and that because parenting is hard, we often become our own prents, not always in the best way. This is just a humorous way to show that. Maybe you're just a judgmental person, and may not have kids of your own. @anna8328
@anna8328 5 жыл бұрын
Not neccesarily. There really are different experiences. Imagine that what the clips showed mother doing - yelling and anger - that this is all it was. No bullying, no unfairness, no judging like a crazy person, no scapegoating, no lashing out like kid is the punching bag, no shit like this. That she was fair and tried her best - and because she was human she obviously lost her shit sometimes - but that was it. It was surface emotions and when they passed she wanted to again be the best mother she could be, supportive and non-judgemental. I can imagine if that was the case the daughter wouldn't remember yelling. I have few friends who couldn't stand their mothers as teens - they crossed twenty and practically built their mothers a shrine (they had no kids, just 20 year olds normal and stuff). Asked about it they explained that they were little hells and their mothers wanted what was best for them. So I can imagine it's real. See, thing with parents is that you could swear left and right and believe it that they weren't bad - because on the surface it looked identical - sometimes mom lost her shit, but she loved you blabla bla. But underneath the surface there was genuine toxicity, resentment, expecting the kid to meet parent's needs, inadequacies and ways the parents was hurt by own parent - now seeing how vulnerable the kid truly is while being the parent, losing their shit how could their own parents hurt them like this if it's plain and obvious this little shit is so fragile and dependent and vulnerable - acts awful, but it's actually obvious who is stronger - that sometimes makes them go nuts and they never realize those things in words. There are bad parents who look good. There are good parents who look bad. You can tell by being a kid and touching this place inside of you - the daughter in the sketch had a good mother. I, for example, didn't. I had a mother who used me as emotional punching bag and then, when I was 20 and screwed up university, run out of saved money I had to come back home because I had no place to sleep - used up friends and all that, no cash which was specifically saved for survival - it was freezing cold, I spend 4 hours outside the gateway to the house - she said no. She saw me and said no. I made it clear that I will sleep on frozen pavement otherwise - she was ok with it. At one point | called her and asked if my old coat is in the closet and can she bring it out cause it's cold. She brought it out and went back to the house. She never felt bad about it. My entire family insists I was such a nightmare (gee, wonder way, maybe being constantly psychologically scapegoated had some impact) that my mother was right to do that. No fault in her. And I imagine this video doesn't depict this mother - it depicts a mother that would be horrified by that. She got angry, she lost her shit, she made mistaked and couldn't take it - but there was a whole bunch of things she didn't even consider doing and behaviours she wouldn't do to her enemies - because she believed those are evil/dysfunctional. There really are thousands of different experiences of being a kid.

I think kids know how a parent deep down feels about what's important. What I mean is if you're desperately working to feed your kids and give them the basics because you love them and they are important to you, they'll know. You probably had to tell them no more often than you wanted to, came home tired and irritable more often than you liked, but it is surprising how often kids understand, even if they were upset at the time. I think it is far more hurtful to children if a parent is absent because they prioritize work, constantly rationalizing the choice that they have to do so to pay for the quality of life for their family, yet never really getting around to spending time with that family. It isn't the same thing, and children can normally tell difference when a parent would spend more time with them if they only could, and when a parent just rarely does so despite any promised intention because they keep putting work first.

My dad has raised two teenagers with a some help from our mom (my parents got divorced when me and my brother were very little) and I gotta say, he’s doing great! The amount of times he’s had to help me with my homework while I’m tired and cranky and just want to go to bed is astounding. And he’s a teacher! His day is filled with parenting even when they’re someone else’s kid! To all the parents of young children, it gets worse. But at the same time it actually gets better! Your kids get more independent, they can be safely left alone for longer and if you do things right, they won’t hate you when they’re teens. Make sure you can trust each other. Aproach them as someone that is too young to know or understand anything, but as a friend. And remember to acknowledge your mistakes. I know I find it annoying when adults make it seem like they know everything and that they are always right. Hold their hand when they need it or ask for it but remember to let go at some point. Everyone has their ups and downs and everyone needs help every once in a while but trust me, it will be all right. With love - an 8th grader who loves her dad Ps. Thank you to all parents ❤️

got to say, I watched this after spending all day making the kids clean their rooms which always ends with me having to literally give step by step instructions on picking up the toys and putting them in the box less than a foot away. , dealing with stuff like a kid pealing paint from the walls and pouring the contents of a glade plug in out onto their bed (yep, that room is never going to smell the same again.) and finally getting a shower for the first time in three days after all the kids actually went to bed without a fight and this made me tear up a little while I laughed.

@ reward charts work great on some kids, usually those kids are pretty easy to begin with lol. my kids are slightly feral despite my best efforts and I'm learned to just go with it 90% of the time cause its not actually hurting anything. I laugh when people give me suggestions cause after 6 years working in early childhood development I know all the tricks and I already tried them and I still have to remind them not to lick other people and talk about their vagina in public.

i grew up taking care of my nieces and nephews while their parents worked. so like, almost everything you could experience as a parent, i've experienced while babysitting/raising those kids. it's hard as fuck, and tiring as hell. still, those kids now think of me as their other parent and their parents joke that they're my kids, too. and i love that. but omg, it is no joke. to this day, literally the only thing keeping me from having children of my own, is the knowledge that it would be a hard-ass struggle to raise them, and i don't think i'm willing to go through that again. even though i love kids and would love to have kids of my own. it's just... it's brutal, lol.
