This is part 2 of the introductory moment distribution method example. It details how to take the end moment results and draw the shear and moment diagrams. Normally comparing end moments to a computer programs results are a good way to verify the computer output is good enough.

A couple of questions on here (by the way, great tutorials and refreshers): 1. At 2:20 you mention you'll substitute Vba with a negative number but adding two negative values would make Vab = 37.29k, not 12.71k. Did you mean to substitute with the upwards positive Vba? 2. At 2:58 finding Summation Mb, how come you don't include Mcb into the equib. equation like you did for Summation Ma using Mba?

Thank you for your questions and catching the typos. At 2:20, there's an annotation that indicates the equilib. equation should have been V_AB - (1k/ft)*(25ft) - V_BA = 0. The result for VAB = 12.71k reflects the corrected equation. At 2:58, I forgot to include Mcb in the equilib equation when I was recording the video. The result of Vcb = -9.19 kips is from the equilib equation with Mcb included. I have added annotations to the video.

i don't understand how that is possible because if your saying ....... V_AB - (1k/ft)*(25ft) - V_BA = 0..........then it would be V_AB - 25 -12.29.......and -25 - 12.29=37.29.. i don't understand

Im confused that you always change the directions of your moments, you draw all the shear moments upward but when you plot it in the diagrams you followed the signs that you have calculated earlier. Then when you calculate the "By"you changed again the direction of the shear moments downward 😢 why is that?

I'm not sure why no one has said this. His calculations are not correct. For Vab, you have to subtract Vba, look at the diagram again to see this. For moment for BC, he left off the second moment at point C, so it should have -35.686 at the end of that equation. This gives you the -9.19.

Yeah I'm thinking, the same too, I was thinking too hard to figure anything out why my comprehension doesn't match his, like what is wrong with my logic. He include both end moments in frame AB why not with frame BC? This question demands an answer.
