1. For "normal" shots: 4k, 24fps. 2. Aspec Ratio: 16:9 (Change it in Post) 3. FiLMiC Extreme/Bitrate as high as you can! 4. Lock Whitebalance 5. LOG: Flat (for best results when editing in post) 6. For Slow-Mo shots: 1080p, 120fps. 7. When Slow-Mo: a.) Lots of Action! b.) Good Lighting

@@LeQuangTu Real film has always been shot at 24p. It gives better motion blur and less "video" look, generally speaking. Ideally, you also want a shutter speed of 1/50 (1/48 more perfect, 24x2=48), but a lot of phones these days still don't have the true capability to adjust shutter speed. There's no real auto-fix. You just gotta put in the work/practice and do the research and understand the "why" and "how". But some of the capabilities of this app would certainly help in taking more of a manual control.

Great and informative video guys! I can't wait to get my hands on some Moment lenses one day. One thing ya'll forgot to mention though which is really important, is shutter speed settings! For the most "cinematic" shooting, 24fps will need to be combined with a 1/48 shutter speed (i.e. the 180-degree rule). But in bright daylight this would waayyyyyyy over expose your footage. There's no way to overcome this on a phone unless you're either A) using an ND filter or B) cranking your shutter speed up extremely high to lower that exposure again, which can often make your footage look a bit more choppy.

@ Depends how well lit your scene is. The slower the shutter, the less light it lets in. Brighten it up or up your shutter speed
@agoniavr
@agoniavr 5 жыл бұрын
@ there's a rule: shutter speed should always be around double your frame rate. For 24-30fps you usually put 1/50-1/60, for 60fps it's 1/120 and this affects how the movement and motion blur result on screen. With this rule your footage will look both natural and "cinematic", meaning the way it's usually seen in films. Anything lower or higher than double the framerate will make for weird motion blur and movement

@usmanmajid7837

@Albi Losha Correct, there is absolutely no way that an ND filter wasn't used for this video. You can't lock your shutter in that low in bright daylight.

Speaking of slo-mo I always wondered how regular and slo-mo footage is combined if they are shot at different fps. For example, you shot in 24fps at 4K but the slo-mo switched to 120fps 1080p. I don't have video editing software at the moment so I don't know if it requires special (read: expensive) software to combine footage shot at different fps and bitrates.
@usmanmajid7837
@usmanmajid7837 4 жыл бұрын
If you plan your shoots properly you can deal with this in your software. 4k can be scaled down to 1080p and vice versa. You decide what your final video output will be (e.g. 24fps) and create a timeline with those settings. You then conform your 120fps footage to the 24fps timeline either by slowing it down, or interpreting the footage (easily done in Premiere Pro). Then boom!

Serious question, when filming everything in 4K 24fps in flat log, then going to film 120fps or even 60fps for that matter, filmic pro says cannot use log settings (flat, etc.) do you just try and match it to the rest of your footage in post color grading or what? I noticed in Filmic Pro that the custom colour profiles like flat/log are "Not available at frame rates higher than 60fps." That is disappointing. What is the reason for this? If I need to shoot a mixture of regular and slow motion footage, am I now forced to do it all in non-log so that colour grading will be consistent in post-production?

Well done, Gents. It's a warp-speed world. I did two short films, one in 2006 and the other in 2009. Shot both on an HVX200 but by the time I did my second film, they had a lens adapter, so we were able to use some nice glass. It was problematic on tracking shots (Depth of field! No depth of field. Depth of field! No depth of field- lol) but it definitely added to the look. NOW THIS!! And a hell of a lot cheaper. With no big crew. And cords. LOTS of cords, they're gone! Throughout watching your videos you guys have convinced me into buying a Pixel 2 and a wide-lens. Too bad it isn't available in the Netherlands so I'll have to import it from GE or the UK. Only one decision left to make, To XL or not? ---- As for the next topic: More and more phones are capable of shooting RAW photos. In your previous video (iPhone X|How to Shoot Portraits in Low Light), there wasn't any mention of using RAW mode (capable by using some apps). - Do you guys use it? - What is your workflow with shooting RAW and how much advantages do you draw out of it (maybe compare it with Pixel 2 and iPhone, to highlight what capabilities there are on a device basis). - What advantages do you have when combining it with your moment lens? Since the moment RAW became available on iOS, I've always been using it with my iPhone 6S. It gives a lot more freedom when post-processing some low-light photos.

30fps is usually reserved for TV and 24fps for movies. The higher the frame rate, the less motion blur. So with something like sports, you would want to shoot at 60fps.

Joshua Himes Success Life yes! I would recommend them. I preordered them and i did not hesitate but went for the 100grams instead of 50grams. And all i do is pop in my iphone 7. With the moment case and new wide angle lens v2. And balances perfect. Then I tried it on the moment battery case WITH the wide angle lens v2 (its a heavy lens) and still balances great! No problem!

SkippyGustilo i have the 37-52mm sensei step up ring. I might need the 38-52mm. Cause i have gaffer tape to help keep it in place. Still experimenting.

The footage you guys can capture from a phone is pretty amazing. Definitely making me rethink lugging around a dslr, C100, and a bunch of lenses! As far as the C100 goes do you guys shoot clog then color grade or wide dr? Regardless it looks great. Keep up the awesome work! Definitely getting on the Moment train here real soon.

I think you should shoot in 4k@60fps if you can somehow avoid dropped frames.. but I haven't figured that out yet. I think it's a matter of compression and how similar the frame is to the last frame vs the maximum bandwidth (100mbps on iPhone X) the color profiles he's talking about seem to be post-production, calculated digital manipulations that you could do at home on your computer, so I would stay away from that, just try to optimize the analog, hardware recording
