Nice post, albeit a little depressing. The one that still haunts me is Johan Garpenlov hitting the post in game 6 overtime against the Leafs, which would have advanced us to the next round in those magical playoffs, gosh 30 years ago.

How can anyone forget 1994 playoffs game 6 in Toronto 's famed Maple Leaf Gardens. Sharks lead the series 3-2. In overtime forward Johann Garpenlov hits the CROSSBAR and unfortunately Mike Gartner shortly thereafter wins it for Toronto and they take game 7 as well . On the heels of beating Detroit AND possibly Toronto in the same playoffs the same year?....it would've been UNBELIEVABLE!.... DAMN YOU FELIX POTVIN!!!!...I can't believe Brodie never brought this up.

A view from this charter season ticketholder: I've never felt we were screwed out of the #1 pick in 1991 (Eric Lindros): The Gunds wanted to enter the league a year earlier than the next two expansion teams (the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning), but the league and the other teams didn't think it made sense to grant the Sharks the #1 overall pick -- who was projected to be a once-in-a-decade player -- in the middle of the 1990-91 season, which I completely understand. That could have resulted in multiple lawsuits and sullied both the 1991 and 1992 expansions. Granting the Sharks the #2 overall pick made sense at the time, and I don't have a beef with that decision. In the end, neither Eric Lindros nor #2 pick Pat Falloon really lived up to his lofty draft day expectations. And the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche only became a strong team (and Stanley Cup Winner) by Lindros refusing to report, forcing Colorado to eventually trade him (to the Flayers...and also the Rangers, infamously) for players and draft pics that yielded a bonanza of Peter Forsberg, Mike Ricci, Patrick Roy, Mike Keane, Steve Duchesne, Claude Lemieux, Chris Simon, Adam Deadmarsh, and several others. The Sharks likely would have been able to sign Lindros and kept him, making him the face of the franchise as they tried to do with Pat Falloon. He would have been a significantly bigger draw than Falloon but, if memory serves me correctly, the Sharks really didn't have a problem selling out the Cow Palace and then The Tank in those early years. The Sharks could have sold even more merchandise in their initial years, but I don't think we would have performed a whole lot better on the ice unless either Lindros had either refused to sign with us as well or we decided to trade the #1 overall pick anyway, which would have been very alienating to us fans before the team even stepped on the ice for the first time.

What if…… Johan Garpwnlov scores a goal in overtime vs the Toronto Maple Leafs in game 6. They go on to play the Canucks, a team who they had the upper hand on during the regular season and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals as an 8 seed What if the Sharks were able to hold on to Ed Belfour and he never ended up on the stars and “Public Enemy #1” in sharks fans eyes. Would the Dallas stars be as dominant, would the tide shifted in the sharks favor? What if in the 2005/2006 playoffs the sharks score a goal in game 3 overtime to go up 3-0 on the oilers and eventually win the series…. The ducks are next who they have handled easily in the regular season and then they play in the finals against Carolina. What if the sharks never acquired joe Thornton, does that 2005 season end the team in the bottom…. What if the Red Wings were never in the western conference….
