From what I've tested, I found that having different drop-time values for different situations help. For example if you are running through the woods, then a 1 sec drop time works great, versus a 3 second one used for a character gently moving through a scene.

This is the best tutorial on balancing I have watched, and I've gone through a few! This is clear, logical, and most importantly it has the right order of doing things! Almost everyone, including my manual, starts off with the camera/plate adjustments on top, but it is only by starting with the weights apart, minimum weight, fully telescoped-out drop test and going from there was I finally able to get it! I still have some micro adjustments, but it at least looks like it is supposed to now, instead of the twirly baton I had earlier! Thank you so much for the thought and detail.

Josh, just bought a Merlin Steadicam. Man I love it! I used to fly with my own diy steadicam back in the day and for a few years now I've been using electronic gimbals. Steadicams are just so good. I paid $55 shipped from Adorama lol.

Got a Neewar steadicam for less than $120. It looks like a molecule by molecule knock off of a Glidecam. I'm working on the relatively steep learning curve of never having done video before (I have a couple of Canon 70d's). I "get" this video and it's very helpfull but wonder why all of these guys who do them have like 18 inch bicepts

Excellent video! I just got a Sutefoto glidecam for my Fuji XT2 for b-roll, music videos and other things, and from all the videos I've seen, yours is by far the most helpful and best-made. Thanks buddy, ur tutorial was spot on, watched a previous tutorial before hand, which wasn't bad but he was saying add all the weight all the time as he has been using these for about 2 years so he said its advisable to,smhI did, but my stabiliser was never stable, until I watched ur video re adjusted the weights and got the eureka moment, thanks a lot mate.

If your glidecam/steadicam keeps spinning counterclockwise or clockwise it is because you have a bad bearing. hold the housing that holds the main bearing and wiggle it. wiggle it in both axis directions, one axis might be fine but the other direction you will feel a loose bearing, that explains why your glidecam keeps spinning no matter what adjustment you make
