Looking at the comments this reminds me of one thing that bothers me is that whenever someone sees a technique demonstrated in slow motion they say "Lol ineffective in a real fight cuz they did it slow here, this martial art is bullshido" while neglecting the fact that in actual sparring or a real fight you would be doing the same maneuvers at full speed and force. The point is often for the person executing it to feel how the technique should feel when executed, to let observers see the various parts of the maneuver in question so they can understand how the maneuver is executed, and third to allow oneself to get used to making these physical motions. Many slow solo exercises basically serve as a means of achieving that last point; to let the practitioner feel what their body is doing as they do it and to get used to making these sort of motions. It's part of preparing for doing the thing at full speed. Many times, the instructor will slow the execution of the technique down and then perform the same one at full speed to demonstrate. One does not take a first time driver out onto a busy road with a high speed limit when they know little of operating the vehicle, however, once they have practiced driving for an extended period and learned the ins and outs of operating the vehicle, then they will be able to.

Fair enough. In every martial art you learn it slow and methodical at first. But the real point is that a lot of these guys (not talking about the one here in particular) NEVER test these techniques or ideas in uncooperative sparring or against someone who is not a compliant student, not even talking about full contact style-vs-style events. It's always an outreaching punch which stays hanging there in the air, while in real life it would be much faster, retract and the attacker would be moving around, in and out of range.

@@DeadBoneJones Ever boxed? Or wrestled? That's going full speed against a resisting opponent. And as far as the crackhead at the 7-11 goes those people are dangerous because they often have weapons and a disregard for human life. That is NOT the same thing as being tough or able to fight. A lot of "street" folks are in bad physical conditioned and often undernourished and they often feel like they are made of paper when you come in actual contact with them. But if they shoot you that makes no difference. "Street fights' lead on of three places, Jail, the morgue or the hospital.

sam there isn't any style that doesn't have kick and punches, maybe they are better at kicks and grab or punches, but they will always include somekind of kicks/grabs in their style. Style is more like the way you how you approach fights, not the actual way that you must fight. Bajiquan principle is always going forward, and bumb your enemy with your body. its essential to strike your enemy with your shoulder, knees and head in Baji. check this video if you like Bajiquan, skip to 6:30 and 16:30 for Demos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2q2oJl4qtl_oZo

To the people that say that kung fu doesn't work or that technique wont work or whatever... You may be missing many things that make this work. If you look in the background you'll see that 1. These guys are making contact. 2. You may notice they are wearing gloves and protective gear for their legs. We call that a clue. 3. We don't see them wearing headgear or a mouthpiece so one might conclude this isn't a hard sparring day (if they have those). You can't learn to fight if you aren't making contact, you also can't learn to fight if you're constantly injured from practice. One criticism that I'd levy is that the application shown isn't a real technique. What I mean by that is in order to show an idea or a concept the student feeds a slow technique and the instructor then shows the technique or idea. That doesn't work, but it's no different in muay thai, boxing, bjj, wrestling or any of the "real" fighting styles. When we practice head movement in boxing for example you aren't drilling that technique against real full force hooks and uppercuts. Your trainer (if they have any sense) is using a rope or a pool noodle and moving at a controlled pace so you can feel out your body and learn positioning and develop your spacing and timing and footwork and balance. Then when you gain a level of proficiency they speed it up. Then they might get a focus pad and throw slow punches with their off hand so you can work your counters in as you practice movement. This is to build a skillset. I don't know this man so I can't say he's good, but I can't knock what I see. He is making contact with his students and has them geared up to make contact with each other. Where's the problem?

@@FoieGras MMA students spar on a weekly basis as part of their training. So yes, they do get pressure-tested. Meanwhile, it is difficult to find any footage of baji students doing actual sparring (drilling doesn't count). "I doubt that you’ve actually READ about the real fights in Bajiquan" Chinese martial arts has long had a problem of the stories circulated being exaggerated, misremembered, or even outright lies, often told to promote a style/school/instructor, or to give 'face' to someone else. This is extensively covered in Peter Lorge's book "Chinese Martial Arts - From Antiquity to the Twenty-First Century". So unless you have seen FOOTAGE of baji students/practitioners fighting and winning (footage which can be shared and cross-examined), then you don't have any tangible evidence of baji being effective in a fight. And if baji is so effective, it shouldn't be a problem for baji practitioners to win fights against other styles, record their wins, and share the evidence. And yet, there is a complete absence of proof that baji is good for fighting. There is virtually no footage of bajiquan winning fights.
